Hillary Clinton Sounds Off On Education Issues: 'We've Gotten Off Track In What We Test'

In March, the NEA formally began considering who it would endorse in the 2016 presidential election. To jump-start this process, it sent all viable candidates from both major parties questionnaires about prominent education issues and hired organizers for states with early voting.
The interview comes a week after Clinton, along with fellow Democratic presidential candidates Gov. Martin O' Malley of Maryland and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), attended the executive council meeting of the American Federation of Teachers, the nation's other major teachers union.
During that meeting, Clinton emphasized her appreciation for teachers, saying, "It is just dead wrong to make teachers the scapegoats for all of societys problems."
"I want to work with you to make sure we do what needs to be done based on evidence, not ideology. And from what Ive seen, all of the evidence, and my own personal experience, says that the most important and impactful thing we can do for our public schools is to recruit, support and retain the highest-quality educators," Clinton said, according to an excerpt of the meeting.
She continued: "Where I come from, teachers are the solution. And I strongly believe that unions are part of the solution, too."................

(10,406 posts)...that a lot of smart people think Hillary is great for America!
HRC has suddenly become aware that unions exist. I am digging how much she has started sounding like a Democrat lately. I wonder how long that will last if she becomes President.

(6,891 posts)The Walton and Gates Foundations are the two largest contributors to the Clinton Foundation. They are also the nations major financial sugar daddies of charter schools and the privatization aka "education reform movement."
When discussing education you will hear HRC say "teachers," "education," schools" and even "unions." You will rarely hear her modify any of them with the word "public." If she does it will usually come with the words "choice" or "charter" attached.
To her credit, she opposes private school vouchers, and that's a big plus in her favor.

I'll overlook the word "impactful." It's hard, but I think I can do it.
.... No, no, I can't.

(6,891 posts)So perhaps this is one of those Common Core corporate cons.
"...the most important thing we can do for our public (charter) schools is to recruit (salary subsidized, revolving door TFA teachers), support and retain the highest-quality educators (bases upon their standardized test scores)."

(1,062 posts)... so, since it is still a year and a half before the election, we should see a lot of evolving amongst those running. I would predict however that the Republicans will more likely devolve.

(10,345 posts)during the race then it really doesn't seem so sincere.
Obama changed his mind on gay marriage once he was already in the house. that's more likely sincere.
but changing your mind during the race? nope. that's like choosing a different car in the pit stop because you realized that you weren't winning with the old one.

(10,345 posts)I don't think she gets a pass, no. I was mocking this supposed "evolution" myself.

(36,392 posts)She has been a supporter of privatization, charter schools, and the Bush family education scam for years. Stealing all of Sanders plans for the sake of not appearing too republican is unbecoming.

(35,320 posts)HRC speak with forked tongue. (No offense intended.)
There's a tendency to make teachers the scapegoat.
But, no, they're the solution.
Meaning if there's been a problem for 50 years, the solution has been screwing up. So it's the teacher's fault.
Sounds to me like she's scapegoating teachers as she denies scapegoating teachers.
Then again, she has to.
One word: Blueberries. If the farmers have all the votes, then you scapegoat the baker and never the farmer when the blueberry muffins are crap.

(3,163 posts)...she will be right there with them, right? Just like Obama was right there with them in Wisconsin after making that promise during his campaign.
When are we going to learn that campaign rhetoric and governance are two entirely different things?
