Related: About this forumTeachers sign petition to withdraw AFT endorsement.
Over 2500 signatures in less than 24 hours. That's a lot of teachers (more than double the AFT "poll" who are opposed to Clinton and her lapdog Weingartner.

(10,237 posts)teachers are pretty smart for the most part .

(17,064 posts)At the very least, it calls attention to AFT president sitting on board of Hillarys Super PAC, which further emphasizes Hillary can't be trusted. At best, it recalls AFT leadership, and removes the union from the control of corporatist infilltraitors (misspelling intentional).

(30,058 posts)Signatures. It would probably be determined by the By Laws of the union. I am sure a member of the AFT knows what I is in the By Laws.

(30,058 posts)Met with the candidates so it was not based on the poll numbers. Just like the polls we read here and other places does not contact all eligible voters, it is exactly what it says , a poll.

(19,877 posts)Trying to turn everyone who supports Hillary into the "enemy" is absolutely NOT a winning strategy. For the most part, nearly every Hillary supporter would vote for Bernie if he wins nomination, but not if you keep pissing off her supporters. If people can't lift up their candidate without tearing others down, they will not have solidarity. And solidarity is the only way to win elections.

...that's just more DU blather.
What an embarrassment to even engage in this.

(1,557 posts)Fifth paragraph down it says "Since February..."
It does seem odd that teachers are coming out and saying, "Hold on, I wasn't polled." Maybe all of these people were just missed in the survey. Who knows?

And, apparently, the AFT knew it was premature, and so tried to get ahead of that by offering up a rationalization for being premature:

(42,641 posts)by the end of the year. It is absolutely amazing the number of posts on DU that include the sentence "If (any candidate name here) receives the nomination I will sit this election out".
My perfect candidate will never run because there is no perfect candidate. Any time I vote I consider the alternatives. A vote for Ralph Nader in Florida was a vote for John Roberts as Chief Justice and a vote for the Iraq war.
Lift up one's candidate without tearing others down? What an interesting concept.

(19,926 posts)And if that were not true, and people really did refrain from voting because someone's supporters were mean and nasty, there would be a whole hell of a lot of people on DU who would absolutely not vote for HRC if she were to become the nominee. The HRC group is downright nasty, even going so far as to call Bernie a "flaming turd" and having it cheered on and the alerters of it mocked. I'm so damn sick of the DU meme that Bernie supporters are such big meanies when the HRC camp is so much worse.

You can't back up your op's title claiming 'teachers' are petitioning.

(14,733 posts)But this is the modern world. If they'd really wanted to truly find out what their members wanted, they could have done an email blast with a set of links, one for each candidate, and recorded the first one chosen for each member. They could have quickly and easily polled all 1.6 million members, giving them a week or two to respond.
