(35,015 posts)For me personally, Bernie appeals to my better self, the self that yearns for a world where everyone is accepted for who we are no matter what we believe or how we look, where we don't have to worry about basic survival needs, and where we can use our time and energy to play and create in our own unique ways and have meaningful relationships with others.
Utopia? Yep, and it may be unattainable given the human species's penchant for competition and conflict. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop believing it's possible. I'm certainly not going to stop believing that Bernie will be our next president.

In the mean time we have a candidate who represents mainstream Democratic principles, and shows evidence of being able to take on any of the Republicans likely to be nominated.
bobbobbins01
(1,681 posts)So the OP is about how excited people are about Bernie Sanders because he doesn't represent politics as usual, so you make a milquetoast appeal for people to get behind the candidate that represents the very politics they are rallying against. You couldn't actually expect to sway anyone with this post, or spark a reasonable discussion, so what was the point?

(94,571 posts)In 2008 I supported Clinton, but I switched to Obama when I became convinced he had an equal chance of winning in November. Show me that Sanders can win against the Republican field based on hard evidence and I'll join you.

brooklynite
(94,571 posts)And, yes I am connected, and none of my liberal friends think Sanders has a chance. We're not wiling to take the risk.

(94,571 posts)In addition to Hillary Clinton, I will probably provide financial support to 50 House and Senate candidates. And before I give them that support, I'll want a serious explanation of why they can win, and how they'll do it. If they can't explain that to me, there'll be another candidate, equally deserving, who can.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)What are you looking for there, Brooklynite? Ar you asking for my opinion like it appears, or will you change change the subject - again - back to poll numbers?

(94,571 posts)Obama had a huge advantage over Sanders in terms of financial resources and political support, and was at this point only about 10% behind Clinton. This time around, Clinton is in the high 50s (where she's been for the past year) and won't make the same mistake about ignoring caucus States.

(26,449 posts)Out in the real world, the non-voters and sometimes voters are paying attention for a change.
If you were paying attention you would know that also.
I'm curious about what you think you will accomplish with your post?

(62,325 posts)32% of registered voters. Bernie has already tapped into between 15% - 25% of that vote, probably more as more people get to know him across the country.
But the biggest voting bloc is now the Independent vote AND non-voters, people who are disgusted with the whole 'rigged' system they don't even participate in it anymore. THAT is about to change.
I, eg, have already signed up non-voters who for the first time, they say, in years, they are excited about a candidate who isn't just talking he has the record to back up what he says.
Both the Independent and Non-voter demographics will NOT vote for the status quo candidates, that is why they are Indies and not voting to begin with.
No candidate can win without cross over votes. Bernie is the only candidate who is now getting voters from across the political spectrum.
The Dem base is not enough to win, not for Hillary or Bernie. But half the base plus the Independent and non-voter votes will be enough for Bernie Sanders.

That's why.
At least a Republican will announce that they are going to screw us over and be pleased about it. I don't need a Democrat to smile brightly while they screw us over - I want someone that will stop the screwing of us over.
I expect it from Republicans. From Democrats, it's a betrayal, and that's worse.
