For those interested in sex and cervical health--

OK--40 years ago, Bernie was probably extrapolating from the well-known preventive effect of male orgasm on prostte cancer.

http://www.universityherald.com/articles/6033/20131206/masturbation-prevents-cystitis-diabetes-prostate-cancer-study.htm#ixzz3fwbGW3f7

A new study by University of Sydney claims that masturbation has a host of health benefits. It can apparently prevent serious health conditions such as cystitis, diabetes and prostate cancer.

"For women, masturbation can help prevent cervical infections and urinary tract infections through the process of 'tenting,' or the opening of the cervix that occurs as part of the arousal process. Tenting stretches the cervix, and thus the cervical mucous. This enables fluid circulation, allowing cervical fluids full of bacteria to be flushed out," the researcher said in The Conversation, a website where academics write opinion pieces.

The researchers claim that 'touching of own genitals' prevents prostate cancer in men as it ejects potential cancer-causing agents.

According to a nationally representative US sample, about 94 per cent of men and 85 percent of women have admitted to masturbating. Touching one's own genitals for pleasure is considered a natural part of healthy sexual development.

Prior to this finding, it is believed that masturbation causes blindness, insanity and infertility, and can even make sexual organs fall off.

In fact, it protects people from pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that normally lead to infertility.

The act of self-pleasuring also lowers the risk of developing type-2 diabetes; through the release of hormones and tension, it reduces insomnia; increases pelvic strength through the contractions that occur during orgasm and prevents depression by increasing the amount of endorphins in the bloodstream.

People who orgasm regularly has reduced stress, blood pressure and pain, and increased self-esteem.

expression of human sexuality.

Those bringing this up initially wanted to attack Sanders character for something having to do with 'teh sex'. They are looking for a way to smear him if at all possible.

It is just dirty politics as usual.

Usually caused by a male that has HPV (human papilloma virus) inserting his penis into the vagina.

I don't think that an orgasm at time of sex would prevent the spread of HPV. Or masturbating often will prevent it.

That would sound a bit nutty, don't you think?

Are you suggesting that is not the case or that one is blaming males for this?

It's the fact of the matter, live with it.

Furthermore, the team discovered that a man's risk of HPV increased the more they gave oral sex to their infected female partner; for every unit increase in oral sex frequency, a man's risk of becoming infected with the specific HPV type present in their female partner's genitals increased two-fold.

There were no HPV infections found among men who had a partner without oral or genital HPV, those who were in a monogamous relationship or those who had never smoked.

It's just one study, but what you just said might be completely untrue.

I don't have to say that "one" is blaming males for it. You did. Qualified as usually.

The virus exists, it's passed between men and women, neither is to blame Live with it.

that fluids containing bacteria (and possibly viruses) can be flushed out. it is similar to drinking a lot of water to prevent a uti. water flushes out the bladder and bacteria don't have a chance to stay and grow.

the likelihood of it actually getting rid of the hpv virus is a bit of a stretch imo. the flushing effect is probably more effective in men for obvious reasons.

40 years ago? Read the actual article he wrote and you will see where he got his ideas.

... Like many lefties of his time, he was heavily influenced by the Austrian psychologist Wilhelm Reich, a disciple of Freud whose work drew a connection between sexual repression and fascism.

and

"These articles were written more than 40 years ago," Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said in an email to Mother Jones. "Like most people, Bernie's views on many issues have changed over time."
