(53,661 posts)Heard for many years Babylon represented the American empire and the oppression of natives and many countries. Reference has run around for some years and also refers to debt and slavery.
Some say the USA is either the land of Babylon in the Book of Revelations, or its modern form, and when its financial system collapses, it is the Fall of Babylon. All that wealth, disappearing and all who counted on it in shock. Of course it was an historical event of the Babylonian empire including Iraq.
The analogy made sense to me for a long time as I've seen the USA as part of multinational thieves or pirates at time. And the 1st world as grew rich at the expense of the 3rd world.
However, we have come to learn every country, west and east or however one wants to delineate it, are thieves. From their citizens, the conquered and the Earth itself. Empires aren't sustainable, but in their heyday, to the chosen few in them, they seem great.
When they fall it is for those in power and many below them, an apocalypse. But that term is another word for change. Or TEOTWAWKI. Which is not the end, just of what we know.

(53,661 posts)Babylon System
By Bob Marley
We refuse to be
What you wanted us to be;
We are what we are:
That's the way (way) it's going to be. You don't know!
You can't educate I
For no equal opportunity:
(Talkin' 'bout my freedom) Talkin' 'bout my freedom,
People freedom (freedom) and liberty!
Yeah, we've been trodding on the winepress much too long:
Rebel, rebel!
Yes, we've been trodding on the winepress much too long:
Rebel, rebel!
Babylon system is the vampire, yea! (vampire)
Suckin' the children day by day, yeah!
Me say: de Babylon system is the vampire, falling empire,
Suckin' the blood of the sufferers, yea-ea-ea-ea-e-ah!
Building church and university, wo-o-ooh, yeah! -
Deceiving the people continually, yea-ea!
Me say them graduatin' thieves and murderers;
Look out now: they suckin' the blood of the sufferers (sufferers).
Yea-ea-ea! (sufferers)
Tell the children the truth;
Tell the children the truth;
Tell the children the truth right now!
Come on and tell the children the truth;
Tell the children the truth;
Tell the children the truth;
Tell the children the truth;
Come on and tell the children the truth.
'Cause - 'cause we've been trodding on ya winepress much too long:
Rebel, rebel!
And we've been taken for granted much too long:
Rebel, rebel now!
(Trodding on the winepress) Trodding on the winepress (rebel):
got to rebel, y'all (rebel)!
We've been trodding on the winepress much too long - ye-e-ah! (rebel)
Yea-e-ah! (rebel) Yeah! Yeah!
From the very day we left the shores (trodding on the winepress)
Of our Father's land (rebel),
We've been trampled on (rebel),
Oh now! (we've been oppressed, yeah!) Lord, Lord, go to ...
Hillary would surely know this meaning. As a Methodist, social justice is in their blood. Hope you find the transcript. Can't get the video yet...
LIked that Bernie stood up and applauded her several times as she spoke. But then, they are old friends and she helped fund his Senate race. I'm sure they know each other well, much better than net warriors.
And Republicans, who always make up armchair analyses on her actions and defame the character of the woman. The lower, the better, to tantalize LCD listeners.
Just as they did with Obama. Same bunch, similar memes. I suspect they don't believe it, but et more fantastical with the wild accusations to sucker people in. Who doesn't look at a car wreck, don't dogs run in a pack if something cues their interest?
There is a lot of projection that comes from them.

(81,866 posts)Some person in another thread posted that Hillary is a villain. I think that's outrageous. Since she's a villain I want to see what kind of ridiculous stuff people will believe just because it's her. Those that really dislike her were ready to jump on board.
My post is completely unbelievable. Democratic candidates don't rant and rave about war and get the names of countries wrong by a few hundred years. That's a republican trick.

(59,504 posts)Most at least are obvious in terms of what they are mocking. Here, I clicked in because I thought it was a bizarre smear and intended to demand a link. Read your responses, I don't think this is helping HRC - either gain primary supporters or to gain the respect of people who need to support her in the general election.
I also don't get the many hard edged, nasty sarcastic parodies that mock any non positive HRC threads. HRC is far the most likely nominee of the party. I don't get why, with that frontrunner status, most posts are not friendly outreaches to the rest of us. Ultimately, you want people not now for HRC to join her and NOT go around complaining they are holding their noses. Seriously, that tone is counterproductive.
