Related: About this forumDoes Hillary have executive experience?
Mostly talking about her Secretary of State role. I don't count First Lady as executive experience.

(27,787 posts)... in 2008, and again in 2012 .... I honestly could not care less about it now, than I did then.
And so ... if that is something YOU give a shit about ... then I guess you will need to take a pass on Hillary and Bernie.
btw ... as others have noted, being SoS is a pretty good comparison point ... not that I care.
And so, the ball is back in your court ... is Jeb your "expecutive" leader ... or maybe Trump.
Well?

(81,866 posts)It's a question. I supported Obama and I know he didn't have executive experience in 2008. He had it in 2012.
You're reading too much into it.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)That is the question.

(81,866 posts)It's one of the many factors to consider when selecting a president. It should also be a simple answer for a candidates supporters.

(59,504 posts)However, it is possible that the State Department has more employees than Burlington has people! Burlington is small, however - from everything I know - Bernie could have a positive message that he wants to do for the US what he did for Burlington. He did many things to make Burlington the wonderful livable city it is.
For all the candidates, you should look at what they did in that executive position. I live in Burlington, but have lived here under three years. What is clear is that many decisions he made have been crucial to Burlington being the awesome city it now is.
As to HRC, it is clear that the people working for the department when she was there were positive about how she ran the department. In addition, it is clear that she helped Obama restore the US image. (This doesn't even mention that she was first lady)
The way I would answer this issue (which was a Republican issue when we had Senators as candidates) is that we have five candidates ALL of whom have executive experience. All of them have that as part of their resume and all of them will use how and what they did then -- or, in some cases have to answers questions about it. (ie Webb was Secretary of the Navy and by many accounts he had a very poor record as regards women who worked for him. )
One example of where this could shed light on something not easy to predict, is what they say on transparency. Many long time residents of Burlington, speaking of Bernie, credit him with increasing transparency in city government and being unusually accessible. When he speaks of wanting a more transparent government - you can point to the fact that this is the direction he moved things in Burlington. If this actually were to become an issue, there is a stark contrast between that and the image HRC gets due to her email server issue.

Btw ... Weren't you saying their supporters should be able to easily explain their exec experience? You had to go a long way to build a rather weak case for Bernie's exec experience.

(59,052 posts)George W Bush and Ronald Reagan had "executive experience" and look what they did. On the other hand, we had great presidents who had none.

(231 posts)Probably the least experienced President we ever had (executive or otherwise) was a man who had never had a top position in business, the military or government. He'd never been a governor, senator or head of a cabinet department. He was a moderately successful lawyer whose only political experience was in his home state legislature, and one term (just 2 years) in the U.S. Congress.
Abraham Lincoln.
