Related: About this forumRomney's amazing hypocrisy
By Donna Brazile, CNN Contributor
Recently, we learned two important things about Mitt Romney.
First, he would rather see the American economy fail than President Barack Obama win.
Second, the extent of his hypocrisy is amazing. While he laments the toll that outsourcing has taken on our workers and economy, he amassed a fortune by investing in companies that outsourced American jobs.
In word and deed, Romney roots for failure, and his insincerity reveals a disdain for the common good and disregard for people's common sense. Americans deserve better.

(5 posts)This opinion piece is junk. Even as an opinion piece is purports to give facts in support of the opinion even when said facts are far from verified or even supportive. Shame on CNN for allowing even an op-ed writer to claim facts with no merit. This article is so bad I almost thought it came from The Onion.

(5 posts)If you read the sentence I wrote, you will see that I am referring to support for the writer's opinion. She claims that Romney has asked governors to downplay economic successes in their states by citing an article which has been far from substantiated. Further she makes claims that Obama's policies have been effective by citing Ohio as an example when in fact Ohio is far from an example of the glorious benefits of Obama's policies.
My point of contention with her is not that she believes these things. We're all allowed to believe what we want. My issue comes when she tries to claim these things as facts without any material proof that they are indeed factual.

(5 posts)First, her citation of the Bloomberg article which states Romney asked Rick Scott to downplay Florida's economic improvements refers to "two people familiar with the matter." That doesn't even say they are linked in any way to either Romney or Scott. Just that they are "familiar" with the matter. Furthermore, Romney's campaign has flat out denied this claim and has in fact praised the improvements in Florida. It should be mentioned in the opinion piece that these are claims and not outright facts.
Second, she cites Ohio as an example of how the President's policies have been the leading factor in the recovery of Ohio's economy which was led in major part by the auto industry which was bailed-out by the Obama administration.
Thirdly, as an attempt to cite economists who believe Romney's policies would negatively impact the country as opposed to Obama's policies, she cites Jeffrey Liebman. Liebman was one of the chief architects of Obama's economic policy. Of course he's going to say that his policy is good and the opposing policy is bad.
Again, my issue is not with her expressing an opinion, but rather with how she claims to present "facts" in support of it.

(5 posts)Right now, I'm not sold on either candidate. Both have very strong points and both have some serious weaknesses. I probably won't have a decision until a couple of weeks before the election, if that early.

(115,677 posts)and work for the election of Democratic candidates, right? So why are you here?

(5 posts)If I'm to come to a decision on which candidate I support, I feel that I should engage in discussions with those who support the candidates as well as gather information on both candidates. My goal here is not to support one candidate per se. I am here to attempt to foster legitimate discussion based upon facts about real issues. Because of this goal, I have taken issue with this article for the above outlined reasons. I believe there are many points to be made with respect to the flaws of each candidate, but I feel they should be done in a meaningful manner designed to foster legitimate discourse.
