ANYTOWN, USA - Ignored by the mainstream media, but far more influential at the water cooler and over-the-fence than any celebrity, Average Person today endorsed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in his bid for the Democratic nomination.
Person, who works 60 hours a week for about $27,000 a year, began the day by participating in a Chalk the Block for Bernie event.
"Since the media is so wrapped up in the celebrity of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, there seems to be little air-time for a candidate that actually brings years of fighting for the working class to the table," Person said. "Chalking the Block for Bernie is a low-cost way to spread the word for Sanders' campaign outside of the corporate media."
Person and 32,000 other Joe and Jane Doe's also used the power of social media to by-pass an in-the-tank-for-millions mainstream media earlier this week by re-Tweeting a Sanders quote during the Republican debacle debate. The quote was re-Tweeted and Favorited by more people than any Republican's comment and out-paced Clinton's Tweet request for more donations, sent while she dined with the elites of California at a-too-pricey-for-a-working-person-to-attend event.
Person said even more working people plan to cap off the weekend by cheering on Sanders at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. The event was originally scheduled for the much smaller Veteran's Memorial Center, but the deluge of RSVP have forced a move to the 20,000-seat Moda.
Studies have shown that friends, family and neighbors carry more influence in who those around them vote for than any political or celebrity endorsement. In fact, sometimes those big-name endorsements backfire.
"If this keeps up, Bernie will have the endorsement of nearly every Average Person in the country," Person said. "And that is great for America!"

(15,480 posts)It's being held on the University of Washington campus. At 6 p.m., Sanders holds a rally at the University of Washington's Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Capacity is 10,000.
Seattles University District is the area directly surrounding the University of Washington, Seattles biggest institute of higher education. The neighborhood that encompasses the school is a strange and diverse mix of people from all different walks and at all different stages of life. Located on the eastern half of Seattle, just north of the Lake Washington Ship Canal, the U-District, as it is called, is centrally located for access to the rest of the city, while being in a prime location for those with business at the University.
The University of Washington, Seattle campus, is situated on the shores of Union and Portage Bays, with views of the Cascade Range to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west.
The University of Washington (UW), commonly referred to as Washington or informally U-Dub, is a public research university in Seattle, Washington, United States. Founded in 1861, UW is one of the oldest universities on the West Coast and features one of the most highly regarded medical schools in the world.[5][6] UW has been labeled one of the "Public Ivies," a publicly funded university considered as providing a quality of education comparable to those of the Ivy League.[7][8]

(16,171 posts)all we have is our vote and that scares the hell out of the powers. That's the reason for black box voting.
We have to somehow get around their use of electronic counters that no one can see.

From what I understand, hacking a black box is so easy a monkey actually did it.

(41,144 posts)the rise now will definitely threaten the establishment. Private corporate control of electronic voting and corruption are a major concern for years and have to be dealt with somehow. It's a huge issue-
K & R this well done OP! Friends, family and community are much more influential in voting than celebs for sure!

(11,366 posts)It's the Rose Garden. Home of the Rose Bowl.
I'm a college football fan.
The University of Tennessee went to the "Taxslayer" Bowl last year. I refused to call it that. It's the Gator Bowl. Period.
My problem is that I didn't realize that it was the Rose Garden until much later today since I live nearly 3,000 miles from there. In the future, I will try to look up the venue to make sure it's proper name is used and not the corporate-ass structure that bought it.

(19,537 posts)... after it was renamed "3Com Park". I guess now that they've destroyed it, they don't have to worry about the newer park having a former non-corporate name that people will continually call it.
And for us Portlanders, how long will they name Providence Park by this name, since it used to be known as Jeld-Wen Field, PGE Park, Civic Stadium, and Multnomah Stadium? Various sports and their sports fans rely on tradition to keep people excited about their teams, etc. in various communities. Continually selling off their venue's names destroys that tradition, and in the end I think destroys the larger support and success of their sports franchises, and the revenue that the community could get from people following them.
Well, I certainly avoided the term "Moda Center" in the t-shirt I'm going to sell for Bernie tonight, with the silhouette of that building on the shirt. Hopefully people will see that Bernie's being warmly accepted by those here in the home of the Trailblazers...

against Hillary are a good thing. I'd rather see him doing what he is doing than to have a sudden jump in the polls and be a "flash in the pan" candidate who then fades. He's quietly building an audience for how he feels our country needs to move forward. He's pointing out what Policy Issues need to be worked on to move our country back to focusing on the rest of us who have been ignored and not the celebrity porn obsessions, greed and graft of so many of the Top 1%.
Let him slowly build his lasting "Big Mo" because there is still plenty of time for him to do it. The "Grasshopper and the Ant" Fable comes to mind.
