An Omaha woman, Symone D. Sanders, on Saturday was named national press secretary for the presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, the independent U.S. senator from Vermont.
The appointment was announced in Seattle, according to social media. Bernie Sanders is making a three-day swing through the Northwest.

She worked on Nebraska Democrat Chuck Hassebrooks campaign for governor in 2014 and was a member of Omahas charter review convention committee in 2013.
In 2006, while a student at Mercy High School, she was selected to introduce former President Bill Clinton at a Girls Inc. event in Omaha. Sanders recalled the honor in 2012, telling The World-Herald that she wanted the job so badly that she begged, pushed and wrote her way onto the stage. She ended up being written into Clintons book on giving, and she caught the eye of a law firm, which gave her summer internships....

Now he's really gonna get it from BLM. Clearly, he's ignoring their message.

(7,302 posts)I predict we see claims of victory by BLM and claims of pandering to BLM. What ever he does, he loses. Doesn't matter.

(62,325 posts)help get his message to minorities. Good for her, she wasn't about to allow anyone to paint the picture we saw recently, even her, which was not the truth and she took action and Bernie listened and here they both are.
Both wanting the same things, it is a natural partnership.

(14,733 posts)If they work well together, he can carry her forward into his administration.

(62,325 posts)neither party has done much about the plight of AAs over the decades, despite all the campaign rhetoric. She looked at Bernie's long record of VOTES and apparently felt that this candidate isn't about campaign rhetoric, he has a record to back it up. Smart woman, she knows what happens after elections. That is why she wanted to help Bernie get his record out before the smear campaigns did their job.

(62,325 posts)after seeing the attempts to mischaracterize him because she believed that as a supporter she could help him get his message past the noise and that he needed help to do that. He obviously accepted her offer of assistance.
I am sure now that those who were so 'concerned' will be delighted to see the AA community speaking for themselves re Bernie as more and more are joining his campaign.
That WAS the 'concern' no? I never worried about it, seeing how many AAs were already forming groups of supporters, how many well known AAs were endorsing him etc.
But I'm very glad that he has this very smart woman as part of his campaign which is what she wanted to be and that both of them are on the same page regarding issues, which is obvious from her words last night.

(10,007 posts)he's got hundreds of thousands of people donating money to his campaign, he's made tremendous headway in the polls, and his campaign is growing every day.
Seems like a well-run campaign to me.

(1,169 posts)Or perhaps he just needs a 2nd campaign manager.

(62,325 posts)in every poll. When they start polling OUTSIDE the base, and stop polling only people with landlines since so few use them anymore, we will see the real numbers.
I have seen only one poll of Independents in which Bernie beats Hillary by about 10 points.
And we have no polls on all the non voters signing up for his campaign.
No one can win this with just the base.
But even there Bernie has approx 20% in just over two months with zero name recognition. He doesn't need a new campaign manager, his campaign has been brilliant so far.
They should poll the tens of thousands who are coming to all of his events, to find out how many are Dems eg.

(10,007 posts)I just saw the man in person, and he electrified a crowd of 20,000.
I'd say his campaign is in very good hands.

(248 posts)it was THAT GOOD! Yes, people can and will say that he did it because of BLM disruption. I say: Good! It means he is listening and making every effort to reach out and fine tune his messaging. Despite all the hand wringing that's been going on, I think Bernie is doing what he needs to do. Win or lose, I cant fault him for trying.

Bravenak, for one is gone until October, if she decides to come back.
Personally, I think the bridge on this site is scorched and very hard to navigate across.
That is painful.

(46,179 posts)You are correct; it is quite painful.
I think maybe my best response will be none at all. I'm already doing my best to stay out of Clinton threads. I think I'll exit from any BLM discussions as well, unless someone brings it to me.
I'll pay attention. I'll listen. But maybe not discuss things here.

(9,497 posts)But since I was at SEATTLE, I felt I could post.
But there is so much entrenchment here. Me, too though.
I cannot envision, yet, ever marking the ballot for Hillary in the general. It still is too fuzzy to see.
I hope I never have to make that choice.

Not that DU was ever peaceful...But it was balanced more by a sense of community.

So we have a unique view of privilege and victimization. Glad to see you are in Bernie's camp. I haven't noticed any Latino H supporters but I don't know everyone's ethnicity and don't go into their group. I did a few times and found it seething with anger. GDP is bad enough.
