2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI must say I find it ironic...
...at how many people were in favor of CODE PINK or OWS disrupting a speech by a candidate or elected official, but are offended by a group who has a different political focus than they do or interrupts someone THEY like...
Personally, I have a simple, absolutist position. EVERYONE should have the right to speak without interruption. If you disagree with them, YOU have the right to speak before or after, OR somewhere else at the same time.

(114,904 posts)at that. And, yes they are specifically targeting Sanders. And what those folks did yesterday was borderline violent.

(15,558 posts)How 'bout that...

(94,745 posts)I said that EVERYONE deserves to speak without interruption. That includes Bernie Sanders. Is BLM wants to speak, they can do it an another time or elsewhere.

(62,325 posts)Did they threaten ONLY THAT ONE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE that they 'would shut down all his/her campaign events?
When this group issues the same 'warnings' to Republicans and to all other Democratic Candidates, and stops targeting only ONE Candidate, then we can compare them to other protesters.

(7,463 posts)This is a liberal (mostly, anyway) forum. Codepink's stated goals are to end U.S. wars and promote peace, so why wouldn't most of us support them when they go after architects and supporters of war? Even if I didn't support them, I see the logic there.
If you care about black lives, or ending the police state etc. why the heck would you keep targeting Bernie Sanders as if he's the problem? I mean...Bernie Sanders?
Calling progressives white supremacists? Huh?

(1,967 posts)I saw them heckle war supporters, and I saw them engage in street theater. Never saw them completely refuse to allow someone talk, ever.

this isn't about you.
Truly happy to have you here. Closest chance I get to have a colloquy with the FIRE sector.
Have a great afternoon, brooklynite.
Cheers,

(20,006 posts)that so many HRC supporters are bending over backwards to find new and better ways of coming to the defense of BLM and/or blaming HRC's opposition after these selective disruptions. As I remember it, Code Pink and OWS disruptions are/were focused on ISSUES and not certain people. If BLM was truly focused on ISSUES they would not be barking up the wrong tree. Very interesting indeed...

(11,441 posts)opponents, not those on the same side. And I never saw any Occupiers get physical with scheduled speakers, like these two Seattle #BLMers did. Read the Seattle #BLM press release, you'll see that they're pissed off at Sanders because of his reaction at NRN. Tantrum-throwing children is what they are, who would benefit from looking at the overall racial picture, like Sanders does.

(11,441 posts)explain the logic to me.
I'm all for a good protest, and am not phased by interruptions. But when the attacks are highly personal (#bowdownbernie... FUCK THAT) and said protesters are physically threatening (like the two #BLM women were), they need to be stopped. Part of Bernie's appeal is that he's open and accessible, but after yesterday's stunt, I'm hoping he beefs up security at these less formal events. Some of this #BLM crew seems to be whipped into a frenzy, and I worry about his safety. Hillary's safe... she's got Secret Service protection and stays behind the gated properties of grocery chain moguls, and Kanye and the Kartrashians.
