(46,179 posts)I left LA traffic behind more than a decade ago, and just remembering it gives me shudders.

(15,139 posts)would take me 40 minutes to get to the Sports Arena. On a Monday at rush hour, minimum two hours and probably more. Love Bernie. He has my vote. Wish there was a decent public transportation alternative, but there isn't. Live streaming is my friend.

(11,366 posts)It only seats 14,000 to 16,000, depending on configuration.
However, Twitter denizens are reporting that it's already thousands over capacity.
Not sure he'll break the 28,000 since it's a smaller venue. All depends on who hangs around outside. The venue is reporting they will be airing the speech to those outside, though.

(3,128 posts)LA...not so much! There are probably another 27,000 still stuck on the roads trying to get there

(50,130 posts)I live in a suburb, but I can be at the door of the Portland venue in twenty minutes via light rail.
I asked a friend who lives a little north of L.A. if she was going and she said she'd be in traffic for six hours on a school night, so she couldn't go.
I looked on a map and she's really not that far away, so I asked (since I have no idea about traffic in L.A.) and she said she wasn't that far, but traffic is that bad.
LibDemAlways
(15,139 posts)a traffic nightmare kept me home as well. One recent weeknight it took me 3 hours to travel a distance that should have taken 45 minutes. It's that bad.

(18,998 posts)I actually saw someone make that argument.
I guess it makes more sense to hold small ones and charge 2700 bucks to get in...in some minds anyway.
But he is pulling a Truman on Hillary...taking it to the people. Dewey did what Hillary is doing and for the same reason, he thought he had it in the bag because Harry was a bumpkin.
Give em hell Bernie!!!

(3,498 posts)I'm betting, like an article I saw earlier today, that the M$M will be in total shock when the next reporting of donation amounts come in.
His small donations have probably shot through the roof as a result of these rallies. He and a small staff fly out to the West Coast and probably spent, what, $10,000 for airfare and hotels. Maybe even as much as $20,000 (doubtful, though, since he takes business class flights). And then he "meets," collectively, with 70,000 people in three days. I bet the return on investment of this trip is probably so a high that a Wall Streeter would be proud if he'd thought it up.

(11,366 posts)But I still think the followers he gained still made the trip highly profitable both in monetary measure and in picking up foot soldiers and donors.
