Bernie Sanders Only 2016 Candidate Drawing Tens of Thousands to Rallies

A self-described socialist, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has just set a new record for the largest political event of the 2016 presidential contest at a campaign rally in Portland, Oregon.

01:35 11.08.2015

Roughly 9,000 people gathered around the Moda Center on Sunday in Portland for Sanders’ campaign rally. And these were just the people who couldn’t get in. The large arena itself was packed with an estimated 19,000 people, as the remaining thousands were directed to overflow areas to listen to the Senator on loudspeakers outside.

This brought the total number of attendees to 28,000, breaking Sanders’ own records as his populist message continues to draw in larger and larger crowds.

"Whoa. This is an unbelievable turnout," Sanders said after taking the podium at Moda Center. "Portland, you have done it better than anyone else!"

For months, Sanders has been attracting an overflow of crowds at campaign rallies across the country, including events held in conservative states like Texas and Arizona. The continued upward trend in turnout and both state and national polling has reflected the growing resonance of the Vermont Senator’s populist message, centered on an agenda of challenging the economic and political status quo.

During his campaign, the presidential hopeful has vowed to take on the "billionaire class," take money out politics, fight corporate greed, and combat climate change.

Not that Senator Sanders is any way whatsoever the spoiler that Nader was, but it all seems really familiar.

9. He didn't do it three days in a row, though.

And, back then, Nader had far more name recognition because of his work in product safety.

Now days, the M$M is ignoring this in favor of the celebrity "allure" of Trump and Clinton, so it's amazing that anyone is hearing of these events at all.

Thank God for social media so we don't have to depend on the corporate media who loves their corporate toadies.

This was fifteen years ago, long before social media gelled, too.

4. I saw a bogus CNN "report" on Bernie's Portland event, claiming the crowd was only "19,000"
Mon Aug 10, 2015, 10:10 PM
Aug 2015

promptly followed by a replay of THE DAY BEFORE in Seattle where Bernie's
getting shouted down and shoved-aside by faux-BLM posers, with nary a mention
of (Black activist) Symore Sanders' (Bernie's new Press Secretary) stunning
introductory speech for Bernie IN PORTLAND <-- this was decidedly NOT even
mentioned, instead they resorted to the day-old clip to suggest "Bernie's race
problem" is still dogging his campaign.

I know, I know I shouldn't watch CNN.

10. When I see this stuff, I Tweet them publicly and ask them to correct it.

New York Magazine said Bernie had only 1,500 people at the Seattle rally. That probably was a typo and not intentional, but after I asked for a correction, others joined in and the magazine corrected it.

I then thanked them for their correction to let them know I followed up.

I also corrected Rachel Maddow's producer on her blog when he said the Black Lives Matter interruption was at his rally. It wasn't, of course. I explained it was at a Social Security event, but that his own rally later that evening drew 15,000.

Is there a link to this report? I'll be happy to ask them for a correction.

I don't do twitter, and only saw it randomly on the step-master at the gym,
and am not even sure what time-slot it was... I'll try to find it, but it'll be
a needle-in-haystack kind of chances.

Glad to hear you've had some good results doing these corrections thought.

Good on you.

I work in public relations, now.

I know how to ask without being accusatory.

And following through to thank them for the correction shows that you're not being a drive-by asshole.

Tens of thousands of dollar bills that is =)

Tickets to the event start at $10,000 per person, which includes dinner and a photo with Clinton. For $32,400 - the max contribution - you get priority seating and a photo.

Clinton headlined a fundraiser for the group on September 12 in New York City. The cost of a ticket to the event: $10,000.

Hillary Clinton will headline a DCCC fundraiser with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Committee Chairman Steve Israel, according to an invitation obtained by CNN. The high-dollar fundraiser costs $32,4000 per couple - tickets that include lunch and a photo - or $10,000 for one ticket, lunch and a photo.

What are the fees for a Bernie event?

Ya, we know who the candidate of the common citizen is.
