2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Bernie Sanders say that he does not think GMOs are necessarily bad?
Per the unaffiliated with the Sander's campaign feelthebern website:
Bernie supports allowing states to require labels on foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) based on the consumers right-to-know, but does not believe that GMOs are necessarily bad.

I realize the statement above says "believe." However, I would assume one would not use that word unless there were specific statements to back up that assertion.
This would indicate that he does not hold that belief: And a third took the Independent senator to task for spearheading legislation that would mandate GMO labeling, even though the scientific community has largely concluded that these foods dont pose health risks. (I respectfully disagree, Sanders rejoined. He then laid out why he was in favor of labeling in order to give consumers the ability to decide.) http://www.bustle.com/articles/84701-bernie-sanders-did-a-reddit-ama-and-he-really-did-answer-anything
Bernie put forth an amendment to require labeling. WASHINGTON, May 23 The Senate today rejected by a vote of 71 to 27 an amendment by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to let states require labels on food or beverages made with genetically modified ingredients. http://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/senate-votes-on-food-labeling-amendment
And again he was pushing for GMO labeling this year. http://occupy-monsanto.com/tag/bernie-sanders/
Why no mention on how active Bernie was in pushing the labeling requirement?

As for the topic in question, I'm not sure what the problem is. Sounds like he wants people to know about their food but doesn't personally think there's anything to worry about

(12,685 posts)If that's the case, then what is posted there should be right. And this isn't the only thing I question.

(38,613 posts)What are you questioning?

(11,589 posts)However, I replied to you in another thread and you probably could contact the person that registered that site and ask him about this.
Now to be very honest, this is a supporter sight and it is not a PAC or a SuperPAC so, if there are inconstancies, the Sanders Campaign can legally contact them directly if there are falsehoods there.
Let me ask you a question, do you have a problem with this website? It appears to be a very pro-sanders org.

(568 posts)And labelling them is an absolute must, this is also true.
I'm with him 100%.
I would prefer a world with minimal use of GMO, in the realms of medicine and environmental protection, for example, but not for the plethora of applications that we see today.
The government has dropped the ball and isn't protecting our interests nearly as well as they should be.

(568 posts)Under normal circumstances, fracking is done without impact, but the industry doesn't want anyone to know what's in the fluids, partly because knowing this makes it easier to catch them when they screw up because investigators know what trace elements to look for.

(135,425 posts)Some people want GMOs banned--he probably doesn't want to open that can of worms and get those people yelling at him.
I think options and labels are the way to go. People who don't want GMOs can avoid them.

(9,610 posts)I am sure there are positive effective uses for some GMOs.
That does not mean that I think there is not a right to know or that there are not any very bad effects due to some use of some GMOs.

(29,047 posts)There's some give and take. I'm against labeling because it promotes an anti-scientific view of GMOs, and is ultimately harmful to society, which I happen to live in. Being anti GMO is the same as being anti vaccine.
