2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAl Gore is "considering" another run at the White House; would you support him?
The Democratic primary isn't as bloated as the Republican side, but things could change shortly. Reports say that former Vice President Al Gore is considering another run at the White House, but would you support him?

(45,806 posts)the battle for the recount in Fla. In the end, it turned out he really DID win the state, but he didn't fight nearly as hard as the Shrubbies did. IMO, he forfeited any right to ever run again

(28,581 posts)I am supporting the left side of the party. I like Gore as a human being, but I want to see someone in office who wants change and will use their office to push for real, radical change.

(45,490 posts)While a "senior Democrat" told Buzzfeed News that former vice president Al Gore was considering a presidential run and that "they're getting the old gang together" Gore's spokesperson went on record to tell Politico there that there is "no truth to it."
Does the RW rag, the Examiner still pay by the page view, Bob?
Nevermind, I can guess the answer.

(3,859 posts)but Al Gore won Florida and the election. Only the criminal conspiracy of Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris that deprived tens of thousands of innocent black Floridian voters the right to vote made it even close, plus the treasonous partisan 5-4 decision by a rogue SCOTUS finished the coup d'etat.
Having said that, as one of the most loyal, die-hard supporters of Gore on this board, I have to say it is Bernie's time now!

(14,733 posts)I'll grant that he did actually win, but then he simply let that ass Bush have it, rather than fighting. And for the same sort of wishy washy reason that Ford pardoned Nixon. They gave us chronic problems to avoid the pain of lancing the boil immediately.

(3,859 posts)but in retrospect I believe he is too genteel to beat the oligarchy. That is why we need a mean-ass, junkyard dog, class warrior like Bernie to lead the revolution. But I always love the Paul Revere of climate change.

(58,366 posts)If the Florida SC opinion had been upheld and the entire state's votes were counted and Gore came out on top.
The Florida Republican Legislature was prepared to send its own slate of electors and the Republican controlled Congress would've approved of them.
That's precisely why the U.S. Supreme Court stopped the votes from being counted, they didn't want the Republican Party to suffer eventual political backlash in 2002 for taking such an unpopular anti-democratic move.
Gore took it as far as he could.

(1,252 posts)If Bernie were not running I would consider voting for Al Gore. It was a travesty what occurred in 2000. I agree that he should have fought harder and not given in when he did. He accepted defeat at the time because he said we are a nation of laws. He accepted the decision of the Supreme Court even though it favored Bush. One can only wonder what would have occurred had he challenged the Supreme Court Decision? The highest court in the land. Where does one go beyond that?
The court sure blew it on that one and other decisions too BUT it did get it right on some important decisions this very year and often.
I think Al set a good example in that way. I think he really blows it by not being able to articulate his positions as clearly as Bernie Sanders. Bernie is so straight forward and cuts right through to the truth. His exposing of the injustices put upon the people is the reason he has won my vote.
If he were not running and if Bush becomes the nominee over there than I would like Al run and win. Right the wrong of 2000.
My hope is Sanders/Warren 2016.

(24,414 posts)I wish that he had run as an "I told you so" revenge candidate in 2004. 2016 seems like 12 years too late for him to be a viable candidate. I am more eager to see Hillary win in 2016 (though will support the Democratic nominee, whoever they are).
