Larry Wilmore Defends Bernie Sanders

<after tackling the first GOP primary debate earlier this week, Larry Wilmore’s coverage of “The Unblackening” turned to the Democratic race Wednesday night, and particularly Bernie Sanders’ struggles to connect with African-American voters.

“But not everybody in the progressive party is that excited to hear him speak,” Wilmore noted, before playing a clip of the Sanders rally in Seattle that was interrupted by #BlackLivesMatter protesters.

“Now, ladies, I agree that black lives matter,” Wilmore said, speaking directly to the protesters. “But black manners matter as well,” he added to hesitant applause from his audience.

But what surprised Wilmore even more were Sanders’ surprisingly good poll numbers in New Hampshire. “Oh no! Is this happening again?” he asked. “A candidate of passion is about to overtake Hillary? She’s about to get Obama’d by an old white man?” >
