(41,984 posts)In our "some say" culture those who hound can get away with lies and innuendo and faux outrage. The fact that Bernie supporters aren't disgusted by this fact but use it is a horrific bit of self-serving. Were he to begin to be recognized as a real threat they might wish they had objected more.

(12,321 posts)"In 2014, The Star Tribune Company was acquired by Glen Taylor.[17] In 2015, the company moves to the Capella Tower downtown; the demolition of their two buildings in Downtown East began in 2014.[18] Taylor stated that the Star Tribune would be less liberal under his ownership, but that the newspaper had already begun a shift."

Glen Taylor, owner of the Star Tribune, is big-time Republican.

I am an actual Democrat, so I think that the cartoon is humorless. However, I do get a good laugh over the fact that this is supposed to be a Democratic site and it is filled with rebublican propaganda!
What would be really funny is if Biden jumped in the race and Bernie disappeared!

When adults behave like 5 year olds! It is actually quite entertaining.
And I laugh at myself regularly, but I laugh at bullies very often.

(23,677 posts)against an accomplished and qualified Democratic candidate, there is an embracing of it if it's against your candidate's opponent. I stand with whatever Democratic candidate wins the nomination. I am not a one or two issue supporter. They both support enough issues I support that I would be happy with either one. I find no joy or reward in vilifying either candidate, nor in particular using RW propaganda to do so.

(154,021 posts)have talked to a few, and the way they go after people, is what is hot, not what they agree with.
Hell, as I said, a few local pols could have had that cartoon drawn on them... I am thinking of a local board of Supers, and two mayors in particular.

(12,041 posts)Your suggestion that Sack is a Republican is laughable, anyone who is familiar with his work knows that he is left leaning.
ish of the hammer
(444 posts)but somehow, my questions about her connections to Walmart, Monsanto, Goldman,Sachs, Citicorp, etc make you think that I do hate her. Is she supported by these corporations? You tell me. And if her backing is from these giant corporations, where is the incentive for her to protect you from what they (the corps) do? Not hate, just a question.

Cartoonist
(7,317 posts)His contract must still be in force, else Taylor would have fired him. Putting this cartoon down because it came from the Star is cheap, and shows a complete unfamiliarity with Sack.

.... complete ignorance of Sack's cartoons. But don't interrupt them. Let them continue to embarrass themselves

(12,321 posts)IMHO, it was notable that his cartoon came from a Republican paper, and it was attacking a Democratic candidate. It also lives up to Mr. Taylor's statement that the paper was going to become "less liberal".
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)by both "republican" or "democratic" papers.
What i find even more funny is your characterization of a paper that way.
blue neen
(12,321 posts)It's the owner, Glen Taylor's, characterization of his own newspaper.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)even the San Diego UT, which was owned by Doug Manchester and was (still is) a rag,. was self described that way, but was not.
The best description is a conservative paper. And it is not the whole paper, it is the editorial page.
Regardless, the cartoonist leans liberal, like most cartoonists he slams everybody. I prefer to live in that reality. Maybe this will not make sense to you, but some of those self descriptors have to do with very local political conditions. For Manchester it is who he is, and who he hangs out as his friends (read the republican conservative establishment, in particular the Lincoln Club and the Chamber of Commerce.)
For the record, it did not work for Manchester, he sold out to the Tribune Company. So we are all hoping the UT goes back to it's glory days when they actually got Pullitzers.
The cartoonist has won those by the way.

nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)so yes, I AM TRYING TO EXPLAIN SOME OF WHAT IS VERY MUCH KNOWN IN MEDIA.
SOME VERY CONSERVATIVE FOLKS HAVE BEEN BUYING LOCAL PAPERS TRYING TO INFLUENCE LOCAL POLITICS, THEY REFER TO THEIR NEW TOYS IN WAYS THAT IS TRACKING LOCALLY, BUT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WTIH REALITY. SO FAR WE HAVE HAD A FEW SELL THEIR NEW TOYS TO ACTUAL NEWS AGENCIES AFTER THEIR INVESTMENT FAILS TO PUT PEOPLE THEY WANT IN LOCAL POWER.
It is about local conditions.
If that is being personal to you, well there is that. Now I will get personal. Ignorance, willful, is not just a river in Egypt.

(154,021 posts)and a business owner who goes after failed enterprises
http://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2015/06/16/glen-taylor-linked-to-275m-plus-bid-for-ohio-firm.html
And this is why he bought the paper
Glen Taylor: I would say they were coming out of bankruptcy and I was just reading about it. Wed done a number of bankruptcy deals in my other businesses, so I know a little bit about them. Sometimes there are some really good opportunities if you are the lead guy and you get in there. This one was a little bit more complicated, in that a lot of the creditors had picked up the stock and that type of stuff.
So, at that time it wasnt just myself, it was a number of other people in Minnesota that kind of got together and said, Gee, if it is going to come out of bankruptcy, maybe a bunch of us guys in Minnesota should pull this thing together and keep it here. It wasnt my controlling it and it wasnt anything for sure.
https://www.minnpost.com/business/2014/04/glen-taylor-how-i-bought-star-tribune-and-what-i-paid
It is an investment to him, not unlike Manchester. So he deals in bankruptcy deals and Manchester is a local land mogul not unlike Trump. Jesus this is very basic. (and yes that might be seen by you as a personal attack, so be it)
And that group of investors will want their ROI back... so of course it is about local conditions.

Bjorn Against
(12,041 posts)He has been with the paper for more than 30 years, long before Glenn Taylor bought it. The Star Tribune used to be a very progressive paper, since Glenn Taylor bought it it has become more centrist. It is not a Republican paper but it is not the progressive paper it once was, they still do endorse Democrats more often than not but they do endorse Republicans sometimes as well. Steve Sack is one of the progressives the paper still employees however, he is not a right-winger by any stretch of the imagination.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)people complain of the media, and when they are told their self descriptions are not quite correct, they hang on to it.
As Marmar said, I think even Stalin and Lenin would be a RW if they dared (from the grave) criticize HRC. Now by the way, that would be news worthy. Lenin talking from his Mausoleum would be quite impressive.
