Fox News spent much of August 13 running with speculation from an anonymous State Department official that aides to Hillary Clinton had "stripped" the classification markings from emails that she received in her private email server, going so far as to state the claim as fact and speculate on who had done the alleged deed. Later that day, the State Department said there was no evidence any stripping of classification markings had occurred.
State Dept.: No Evidence Classification Markers Were "Stripped" From Emails
..........State Department Spokesperson: "No Indications" That Classification Markings Were "Stripped" From Emails. State Department spokesman Adm. John Kirby said during his August 13 briefing that the State Department has "no indications" that classification markings were stripped from the emails:
QUESTION: John, thank you. I have two quick questions on Secretary Clinton's server. Has the State Department been able to determine whether each of the four classified emails sent to Secretary Clinton's server originated within the State Department or whether they originated within another agency?
MR KIRBY: I don't have any updates for you in terms of original sourcing on those emails.
QUESTION: And secondly, has the State Department been able to determine whether any classification markings may have been stripped from any of those documents from anyone within the State Department?
MR KIRBY: We have no indications that there were any - that there was at all any stripping of classification markings on these. [U.S. Department of State, 8/13/15]
Megyn Kelly First Hyped "Big News" From Anonymous Source To Speculate That "A Clinton Insider" Stripped Classification Markings From Emails
Megyn Kelly: An Unnamed State Source Claimed A "Clinton Insider May Have Removed 'Top Secret' Markings." During the August 12 edition of The Kelly File, host Megyn Kelly claimed that an "unnamed State Department official" suggested that "a Clinton insider must have been the one to actively strip classification marking off" the emails. Fox senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano added that it was "possible, but extremely unlikely" that this was just an error in the Intelligence Community:........

Why was she not using the US Government servers? I have never heard the official excuse.
Nonetheless, simply by going to the trouble to set all this up indicates a deep distrust of...apparently the US Government. This is what I find most interesting about this story.
Now why should we elect anyone who is an enabler of such an untrustworthy government?

(24,853 posts)She had her own server. It was located at her house and with it she sent and received emails through an email address other than the one the US Government provided for her. The supposedly secure government email address.
Do I have that much correct?
Those inclined to say she did nothing wrong are likely, many of them, to point fingers in other directions saying "He did it too! or She did it too!", going so far as to say most if not all previous Sec. of States used private email addresses. They may have, I don't remember.
Here's the question I'd ask Hillary's defenders:
Stipulating that previous Secretaries of State had private email addresses... were those email addresses located on servers in their basements, outside the bounds of government control?

(1,169 posts)A server with the private company. I.e. if you have a gmail address the server would be at Google.

(24,853 posts)Again I ask... in order to have a Gmail address, it would have to reside on a server at Google, right? What were Colin and Condi's private email addresses? Google? Yahoo? Something else? Or were they private domains like Hillary's was, and residing on a server at the person in question's house; outside the boundary of government oversight? Were their email addresses hosted by a server in their basement?

(32,886 posts)I'm not sure why you haven't heard this because this has been widely talked about. The IT Infrastructure at State has been decades behind the times for a long time. When Clinton was SecState, the email system was not accessible remotely.
Since secretary Clinton was remote most of the time, she would never have been able to use the email system at State.
