(11,366 posts)It would have to be an over-the-top out-right horrible act for me to alert.
I was a reporter for 13 years and have spent the last 13 in public relations - a Communications major. The First Amendment is my favorite amendment. It's hard for me to find speech offensive. I realize this isn't my board and the government isn't worried about anyone's speech infringement here, so I try to respect the rules, but, to me, you're free to make ridiculous claims as long as I'm allowed to call you out.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
what total race-baiting. Not to mention obvious mocking of African American activists of Black Lives Matter. Why is this racial pot-stirring on DU? So OTT you need a parachute
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Aug 16, 2015, 04:30 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Just another silly post during the silly primary season. Nothing worth an alert or a hide. Nobody is being attacked.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Not even sure why this was alerted.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Kind of snarky and unlikely to produce soul-searching discussion, but, DU!
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(12,814 posts)The gist of the comments being something like: "The MSM won't call him what he really is -- he's a self-described socialist! More examples of the MSM protecting and serving Democrats."
Notwithstanding that "socialist" is very different from "Democratic socialist" -- which is what Bernie is -- I think it's funny that a rightwinger would complain that the MSM is apparently trying to "hide" a supposedly socialist candidate by calling him a liberal, when the rightwing has spent decades trying to make voters think the word "liberal" actually MEANS "socialist" anyway.

I hope Bernie would be disappointed that his candidacy has inspired would-be progressives to join the right-wing in this.

It's a free country, or at least, it used to be!
Yes it is a free country..no apology is required.
No recognition of anyone else's worldview is required.
BS racial make up hurts no one.
It's hard to build a Democratic coalition if the campaign and its supporters are monolithic in their out reach efforts.

(5,400 posts)When a politician is upsetting the establishment's carts like Sanders is then you know their people will be working towards getting one for the TBA outrage by Sanders.
They'll bring out their biggest guns, the really serious people, and they'll tell us that because of TBA Sanders just can't win. They'll tell us that some of his ideas are good, but when you look at TBA you have to see he can't win.

(3,859 posts)But you are right. I wish all Bernie supporters would be as focused as he is on REACHING OUT TO THE PEOPLE. This is not about you or me, but about bringing people together. When Bernie people are provocative and say things contrary to his strong message of inclusion, they work against his message.
I can understand when people get upset, feeling that their candidate isn't getting a fair shake. But we have to put ego aside and focus on unity and building a robust rainbow coalition. That is the only way we can win the nomination and the only way we can start to heal and improve America and the world.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)and Clinton has a number of things hanging out there that don't really resonate with progressives. Some of those things don't even get discussed all that often. We all know about the IWR, but there is much more. I just think it would be amazingly easy to not make post like this if I were all in for Sanders. Every bit of the approach leaves me scratching my head. I do think many Clinton supporters are goading it, but why shouldn't they when it prompts ops like this?
