The Labor Department reported 374,000 jobless claims were filed in the week ending June 30, down by 14,000 from the prior week’s upwardly revised 387,250 claims.

The jobless claims number was significantly lower than the 385,000 reading expected by analysts.

In another positive reading on the troubled jobs market, the four-week moving average of claims dropped by 1,500 to 835,750.

Separately, payroll company ADP said the US private sector added 176,000 jobs in June, 29 percent more than in May and well above the consensus expectation of 105,000.

I'm tired of hearing this.

Last week they said 386k, down 6k from the previous week's revised figures. Of course, the previous week there were reduced unemployment claims, but not as many as they said; how many, exactly, is up to the reader to dig back and find out.

"They" isn't the government. "They" are the reporters.

So that 6k is now 4750, since 386k is revised upwards to 387,250. I'll remember 6k.

Having taken back 1250, they grant us 14000 from the upwardly revised figure. That's a 3.6% drop in the unemployment claims--if it sticks. If they revise this week's figure up sharply, we'll remember 14k.

And so it goes.

Nothing is new this week, this month, or this election cycle wrt these numbers. Nobody is being dishonest, or even shoddy in their reporting.
