2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHate To Tell The Rs/MSM, But Jobs Are NOT Going To Decide This Election
It's clear that voters are going to give Obama a pass on the lack of jobs, because they realize 1. he didn't create the situation and 2. the Rs have been obstructing him at every turn when it comes to helping the economy.
This is especially true in the swing states who were helped by the auto loans (Ohio, etc).
A Gallup poll from June showed that 68% of the country still blames bush for the bad jobs situation, including half of the Rs surveyed. ( http://www.businessinsider.com/barack-obama-george-bush-economy-jobs-mitt-romney-2012-6 ) And that's Gallup, which always skews towards the rs.
The public has actually gotten used to the jobs reports being lackluster, and no one was getting that excited when the jobs reports were better back ion the first quarter. It's really a non-issue at this point. If the July report showed that a million jobs were added, most people would see that as an outlier, and would fully expect the numbers to come down to the new normal in a few months.
In the meanwhile, support for Obama has increased with his wins on immigration and the ACA.
I think the media and the Rs are talking the talk of 2004, not 2012, mostly because they're uncreative and lazy.

(4,310 posts)is not a good idea. At some point people will consider a change just might
break up the log jam. Instead emphasis should be on changing Congress.
so Obama can push through his agenda.
I'm seriously concerned about the constant focus on this.

(5,818 posts)President Obama gets this, judging by his brief end-of-a-long-day-on-the-road WH signing ceremony for the 3-million-job Transporation bill. Republican committee chair John Mica had stalled this bill for 3 full years. Surrounded by construction workers, President Obama said,
(From http://thehill.com/blogs/transportation-report/highways-bridges-and-roads/236519-obama-signs-highway-bill )
"'First of all, this bill will keep thousands of construction workers on the job rebuilding our nation's infrastructure,' ,,,,
Obama argued at the transportation bill signing on Friday that lawmakers in Congress should send him more bills like the measure he was signing into law.
'My hope is this bipartisan spirit spills over into the next phase,' Obama said. 'That we can start putting more construction workers back to work--not just those that were already on existing projects that were threatened to be laid off--but also getting some new projects done. 'My message to Congress is the same thing I've been saying for months now--lets keep going,' Obama continued. 'Let's keep finding ways to work together to grow the economy and help put more folks back to work. There's no excuse for inaction where there's so many American trying to get back on their feet.'"

(24,689 posts)Most feel things are stabilizing and gradually getting better and its not Obama's fault for the slow recovery. But if we begin to fall back into a recession like in 2008 then all bets are off.

(2,185 posts)It's the only issue the Rupugs can talk about
because, god knows, they won't discuss the elephant in the room
(social issues/medicare/the poor/women's issues)
because they'll lose!
but let them get on a rip about how Obama has ruined the economy..
because the masses have neglected to remember the dubious W...
After all.. we all know how wonderful the Bush years were,
how prosperity blossomed in every corner,
and we all had a chicken in every pot.
Short memories..
