If Obama is only behind Romney by 1 point in a Rasmussen poll, he may actually be ahead by several points. So this is probably a good poll for Obama.

(34,857 posts)It sucks. But no candidate really ever wins by a comfortable margin.
Obama won it by 2.8% in '08
Bush won it by 5% in '04
Bush 'won' it by .1% in '00
Clinton won it by 5.8 in '96
Bush won it by 1.89 in '92
That's an average margin of just 3.1 over the last five elections. It's going to be close, no matter who's running. Clinton and Bush are the only ones who won it by a fairly okay margin and even 5% is pretty close.

(7,515 posts)We are being drowned in "Earned A Say" ads sponsored by AARP. While I will be eligible for Medicare myself next year, I am thoroughly disgusted by the self involved elderly who think they are entitled to a million of dollars of health care because they paid in $65K of medicare taxes. The average Medicare recipient will use benefits totaling $175K and that was in 2011...costs keep going up.

(2,307 posts)Rusmussen polls always favor the Republicans. I don't try to adjust the margin of error, I just pretend it isn't there.

(1,134 posts)Florida is not a must-have. As long as OH and VA are good, Obama has a lot of flexibility.

(308 posts)As I said in my original post, Rasmussen numbers are not to be trusted at face value because of their in-house bias towards the Republicans.
However, they are useful to examine in that if they only show a slight lead for Romney, that means he is probably actually behind. Therefore, the purpose of reading a Rasmussen poll is to get a sense of what the true numbers may be.
