Not saying that they didn't donate serious cash at the fundraiser but arriving in style is part of the illusion of being "somebody". Showing up in a "regular people" ride is seen as gauche.
Many of those fancy rides were rentals... anyone who's ever been within fifty yards of one of those events knows that. Been a valet and waitstaff at some of those and quite frankly, this is a hit piece trying to imply that the vehicles bring the guests were all owned by the passengers. In NY it's quite common to see such rides at a "notables" event, many of those people actually probably own Toyotas and Subarus and maybe a couple beaters at that.

(86,795 posts)many of the wealthy DO have beaters or far less expensive rides, seen 'em in their garages and they do wear some pretty trashy stuff behind closed doors... regardless of how much bankroll they possess or donate... look at the attire of Billary in the bottom photo... not exactly trashy but pretty laid back.
Anyone who thinks these folks dress like that all the time are lost in teevee/National Enquirer lala land.
I'm not defending the copious amounts of $$ they bring to the table but making judgement calls on the vehicles they arrive in is pretty far over the cliff.
After being First Lady, a Senator from NY and SoS, I think she's made a few contacts along the way. I really can't abide this bashing of D candidates on a personal level. I disagree with some of her politics but I think the Hillary Hate Club has been at it for so long the diatribes all sport a hefty rind by now.
Guess I'll go back to lurking on my days off, this is getting too crazy and sounds too much RWNJ fodder anymore.

(86,795 posts)I just thought I'd point out a simple fact but you're right, wasting my time on that.
Too bad we've been reduced - mostly - to a mass of people who have lost all manner of civility and respectful discourse thanks to the reprogramming we're subjected to ad infinitum.
I just object to the fauxnoose flavor of the post and comments. Lurking seems to be the most viable option for a spell.

(7,581 posts)Are the Clintons so out of touch that they don't see how this looks? They remind me of prince William and Kate. Totally tone deaf.

Historic NY
(37,453 posts)good bet many of the cars are too....M/B/ are popular and you can rent them for a weekend in Manhattan from any one of the auto brokers.
Apparently its one of the more popular rental locations I guess its a matter of keeping up the place & paying the taxes. A couple buddies live out there and they make their supplemental living cutting grass, a decent 6 figure living.

(17,197 posts)...let me direct you to this part of the article:
Chelsea, husband Marc and Mrs Clintons granddaughter Charlotte are also expected to spend time in the opulent property that boasts a 50ft swimming pool, lush manicured lawns, private beach access and a spacious and airy interior should the heat of the summer prove too much.
So, you see? Chelsea and Marc probably chipped in a few bucks (and I'm sure brought the charcoal and a couple of twelve-packs), so it REALLY probably only cost about $50,000! Robin Leach probably wouldn't even bat an eye.
Now, don't you feel silly, getting all upset about it?
(I usually don't do tags, but in this case I might as well make an exception. Am I slamming these people? Nah, I'm making fun of them.)

(27,711 posts)Considering the Clinton's record of fundraising, I think it's safe to say it's going to take a lot more than a couple weekend fundraisers to change their worldviews.
