Related: About this forumClinton Camp Says One-Fifth of Delegates Secured for Nomination
As Hillary Clinton's campaign seeks to project dominance in a field that could soon include Vice President Joe Biden, her top advisers are touting a decisive edge on a little-discussed metric: superdelegate commitments.
At the Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis, where she will speak Friday, senior Clinton campaign officials are claiming that she has already secured one-fifth of the pledges needed to win the Democratic presidential nomination. They come from current and former elected officials, committee officeholders, and other party dignitaries.

(15,429 posts)There is no way to come up with a majority of delegates with even 100% of Super Delegates.

(7,412 posts)Luckily the delegates have until the convention to actually make a decision if they need to change their mind

(5,946 posts)I am tired of the primary already our elections are too long, but I would rather it be done closer to the election. At this date, everything seems too soon Guess it is just another getting old thing.

(15,429 posts)Super Delegates are free to vote any way they choose and include current elected officials and former party leaders.

(130,974 posts)Question: Effect of what it actually means? 'Promises' worth what? She'll do lots of arm-twisting to try to make the promises firm.

(15,429 posts)Even if she got immediate support of 100% of the Super Delegates, she would still be short of the 50%+1 mark to secure the nomination.

(15,429 posts)Even if 100% of the Super Delegates announced today they were voting for Hillary Clinton, she would still not secure the nomination.
Super Delegates are an important factor in the Democratic presidential nominating process, and apparently one Bernie Sanders failed to take into account in his strategy.
For what it's worth, Bill Clinton is a Super Delegate, as is Jimmy Carter. Every Democratic member of the Senate is also a Super Delegate, as is every Democratic member of the House.
Bernie Sanders is NOT a Super Delegate as he is not an elected Democrat.

(12,958 posts)Howard Dean announced he had superdelegates wrapped up before the 2004 primary. Primary voters said otherwise and Kerry became the nominee.
Good luck banking on superdelegates going rogue for Hillary.

MohRokTah
(15,429 posts)This happens often since 1972. Somebody will always have an early super delegate lead. Howard Dean never claimed he had the Super Delegates wrapped up. He had an early lead due to super delegates is all.
In 2008, Clinton had an early super delegate lead and Obama still won, so your claim this only happened once before is bullshit.

(1,238 posts)Taking super delegates hostage and using them as a way to imply that the race is already over only motivates the opposition even more.

(2,032 posts)If you include "private commitments". As someone pointed out earlier, this is information meant to help Vise President Biden make his decision.
