2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow I wished Hillary Was on Our Side
She's got it all. Money, name recognition, party support, an ex-President as a husband.
If only she was on the same side as us when it comes to policies! Simple core policies such as anti-war, a cleaner environment, public campaign financing, I would be thrilled.
As it is, I am bummed that my party's leading candidate is oriented to more of the same. When I campaigned for Obama I did so telling people that Obama represented real change. And in many ways, he gave us some change.
But I can't do the same for Hillary, because she does not represent real change. How I wished she did. I could just sit back and coast until next summer.
As it is I have to get out and work for the underdog, Bernie, so that the country can have a president who can and will change the course of my beloved country.

(45,984 posts)I don't worry about them. When even a fool like Glenn Beck calls Sarah Palin a "clown," then she should know the jig is up.

(31,493 posts)A lot of us have felt let down on a few issues and the "professional left" was thrown under the bus right away. It's hard to believe what anyone says after that. Some have regained hope because of Bernie. I have.

(11,856 posts)have realized the limited power of the Presidential office. Sure, they can set the tone for what they've campaigned on, but lawmaking comes from the members of Congress, and there's only so much a President can do to influence those folks.
The days of arm twisting and evening cocktails with the loyal opposition ended many years ago. Until we get a Congress that believes in Country first, things will remain as they are now, and whoever the President is, he or she will spend their time in office railing for things that others will gleefully block, kill or tie up till it's dead....just for sport and attention.
Sorry for the pessimism, but I've seen it both ways. America is in a very dark place at this time.

(13,685 posts)And so considering Hillary as president, I don't see any change in that situation. That's another reason I can't support her.
But if Bernie gets elected, it will be from a Tsunami wave of support of hard charging workers like me. Give us a chance with a leader we can all get behind, like Bernie, and the congress will have no choice but to do or die.
In fact, given the outcome of the vote counts it is a fact that a leader, such as we would have with Bernie, the coattails will be so long as to carry our congress into a democratic majority.

(11,856 posts)And I certainly won't try to change that, but I've seen this movie already and the cure is not based on one person. As long as the American public remains enthralled and captives of the 1% the only change will be for the worse. This country has taken on a pre civil war attitude and that can't change until the people themselves want it to.
And btw, I like Bernie a lot, and have great respect for Mrs. Clinton, but I don't see either of them as what's needed at this time in our history.

(13,685 posts)Having witnessed politics for 30 years, and having never seen anything like Bernie and the wave of support he has encouraged, the reality is we are going to change the course of this country. Really.

(62,325 posts)a Senator and she voted for WAR. That is the last time I thought she was on the side of the people.
When she ran in 2008, I supported Obama. We do not need any more War Hawks in the WH.
She supported one of the worst presidents EVER when she cast that vote and hedged a question on torture, something I will never forget or forgive. Why? Who was she worried about when she voted for Bush's authority to declare war? It surely could not have been the Dem base who were frantically trying to STOP the War criminals from committing that massive crime?
And on torture, who was she trying to impress when she said that under some circumstances she might condone it if elected? The Dem base? I don't think so.
She was not obviously concerned about what we thought, she was trying to impress those who have been pulling the strings of this government for far too long.
And if she could not say 'no' to the AUMF or make a difinitive statement 'No, I do NOT condone torture, torture is an International Crime' as a mere candidate, then how on earth can we trust her with the awesome powers of the presidency?
orpupilofnature57
(15,472 posts)signs of entitlement in everything she does. The platitudes and poetry don't cover up her actions as a Senator, Secretary of state, and I doubt would improve as a President .

(34,195 posts)That's "HUGE" problem about her.
She took eons to admit she screwed up with the emails.
Meanwhile it's drip-drip-drip in the news every day.
That's why people don't trust her.
Just more of the same crap from establishment candidates.

.and yet, if it comes down to it, it's one another time of having to vote against the worse horrora Republican President and a Republican Supreme Court.
So if I have to vote for Clinton, it will be about the Court.
Please remember that.
The problem is that if she's the candidate, I don't know how I'll make calls for her, knock on doors, volunteer, attend rallies and in general argue for her.
If Debbie Wasserman Schultz prevents the usual number of debates and the Dems again squeeze out the basethe Party won't recover.

(3,431 posts)It is not just the Congress which needs to be changed
for any democratic POTUS. The powers of the MIC, CIA,
NSA and their profiting corporations are an almost
unsurmountable problem, which most voters don't
understand.
If the people stand up for several years, and manage
to change the Congress we may see a little bit of
progress, but the "yoooge" powers will still rule the
POTUS.
Still, I am willing to fight for Bernie in spite of
the odds.

(13,685 posts)Bernie is just the leg up we need. His election will inspire many more like him to jump in and run for offices. Indeed, the odds are not good, but with Bernie in office the odds are much better. I don't see the odds changing with Hillary.

(2,412 posts)I would love to vote for a female candidate but unfortunately Hillary Clinton does not stand for traditional female interests, like Peace over War. Her vote for the Iraq War proves to me that she is not what I would call a real woman. She was acting like a man with that vote and she sounds like way too tough and way too war like. Sad.

(5,704 posts)Which one you want, trump vs Hilary. I will take Hilary every frigging day, it is that simple!
On the other hand, if Mr. Sanders is gaining ground, I would prefer him. Put this in your pipe and smoke it, VP Biden is not running!
So you either vote for Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Sanders but please do not let a Republican get elected!

For myself the choice is black and white, no gray area at all....If Bernie does not win the 1% win and the 99% lose, period end of story.

(5,400 posts)Money: Money never changes. To get it you have to pursue it, to pursue it you have to be "worthy" of it. It's a great racket that's been inflicted on us. Anyone wanting to get elected has to kneel down and pray for the "free speech" to rain down on them by the millions. To be President, you need billions of those free speech drops to rain down on you.
We need a game changer. And having found one, we should really consider doing what we can to elect that person. To me, this is a big part of what this election is about.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)I would imagine that Bernie wishes Hillary was more attuned to the People, then he wouldn't have to do what he is doing. Instead he could just sit back and enjoy himself. As it is, he sees the void in the leadership and so he patriotically steps in to fill that void.
