Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said Friday that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) was "unable to control" his party and that his resignation could leave Republicans increasingly "out of touch."
"It appears that even a very conservative speaker like John Boehner is unable to control the extreme right-wing drift of Republicans in the House," Sanders, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, said in a statement.
He added that Republicans are "way out of touch with the American people" and that "without Boehner, it may get even worse."
The Ohio Republican announced during a closed-door meeting in the morning that he would retire at the end of October. The decision sets up a race among House Republicans to replace him.

(2,188 posts)Fact is, there have only been three Republican Speakers in the past 70 years. Newt and Hastert both were more conservative. Especially Newt, he was insane before Tea Baggers became a household name.

(17,656 posts)He voted to shut down the government a few years ago in the midst of the recovery of a financial crisis that was only outdone by the Great Depression.
Like Newt shut the federal government down 20 years earlier, but with much more at stake.
On top of that pile of bullshit, Boehner also has led the GOP party in the House to vote 57 times to overturn Obamacare (the ACA).
So, after all is said and done, I think the least you could do is grant Boehner the title of "most conservative GOP Speaker" and let it go at that.
I would also like to add that Boehner is the most disgusting GOP piece of canine excrement that ever served in the House in the 21st century.
