Burlington Free Press: Set presidential debates free

Set presidential debates free

The stranglehold on the primary debate schedule by the Democratic national Committee -- specifically Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz -- serves neither the interest of the party nor those of voters.

There’s very little attention lavished on the rest of the field, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, former Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., and Harvard Law School Professor Lawrence Lessig. They also deserve a chance to be heard.

O’Mally and Sanders have been the loudest in their call for more debate. Even Clinton has said she is open to more debates, although she has stopped short of saying the party should hold more of them.

The Democratic National Committee is cheating party members with its lock-grip on the primary debates.
