Related: About this forumRmoney's best veep pick: Huckabee or Petraeus
Either Mike Huckabee or David Petraeus would be the best possible pick for Rmoney.
Either of them would help fill-in major support gaps for Rmoney -- they have good name recognition and either would
'excite' the Repuglican base.
Huckabee would please and invigorate the religious right and the tea party ... plus he has campaigning experience.
Petraeus would fill-in a canyon of lack of military and foreign policy experience for Rmoney. The nomination of Rmoney is the first in many cycles in which the Repuglicans are ceding the 'national security' issue to the Democratic candidate. Petraeus would change that.
However, Huckabee has a new radio show and Petraeus is Pres. Obama's CIA director.
Without either of those two, Rmoney is left with really third-rate veep choices.
Portman, Pawlenty or Ryan just don't bring anything to Rmoney ... I can't believe that these three are really all he's got. (I have suggested that U.S. Sen Toomey might be a dark horse choice.)

(45,025 posts)It just doesn't look like a very wise move
for an up-and-coming political star.
Anyone with smarts and talent should
be sitting this one out.
That said, there's a big shortage of
smarts and talent in the GOP.

Huckabee won't be on his VP list.

(9,464 posts)Besides, he works for the Obama administration right now, in a very sensitive position. Major conflict of interest there. I can see Huckabee, though. That might bring around some of the wingnuts who don't trust Romney.

(112,516 posts)After the 2008 campaign it was very apparent that there was no love for Romney in Huckabee's heart. They did a kiss and makeup routine earlier this year on Huckabee's show, but that was for the show--I doubt that Huckabee actually had a change of heart.
