2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumRomney's pick of Ryan indicates the only strategy he has left is to energize his zombie base.
Why else would Rmoney pick someone as far right-wing as Ryan?
Make no mistake. The zombie hordes are out there, lurking in their fundie churches, listening intently to their batshit fire-and-brimstone preachers who'll be screaming at them to vote for Rmoney & Ryan if they don't want to spend eternity in Hell.
We saw them at Chick-Fil-A. The zombie hordes are gonna be headed to the polls this November in high numbers, and it's up to us to make sure they're outnumbered.
We do have the opportunity to not just win, but win big. We need to utterly curbstomp Rmoney/Ryan. We need to drink their milkshake. We must absolutely crush them, demoralize them and send them a message that they have zero hope of getting their batshit made into the policies of our government. We must show absolutely no mercy, continue to run up the score, utterly humiliate, ostracize and destroy them.
This election by all sane accounts shouldn't even be close. But if we're not fighting with absolutely everything we've got, it might be, or Rmoney could even win. In order to take our country back from the teabaggers, we must utterly rout them.

(115,869 posts)Notwithstanding his fanatical Randian budget proposal (and big, round, vacant eyes), he's been a D.C. policy wonk all his adult life. There's nothing about him that is likely to excite that older guy with the flag t-shirt covering the big gut drooping over his NRA belt buckle, that guy with the misspelled signs and the teabags on his hat who hates the libruls and the foreigners and doesn't want the gummint to touch his Social Security. The freepers in their basements wanking over pictures of Sarah Palin holding a rifle. Ryan doesn't add anything to the ticket; they were going to vote for Romney anyway just because they hate Obama. But he won't add the excitement (if you want to call it that) that motivates the wankers to to crawl out of their basements. And the independents, at least those who are not already crazed libertarians, might be completely put off by him. I just don't think he will be a very effective zombie leader - even though he kind of looks like one, only with nicer hair.

What do we study here?
THE WAY OF THE FIST SIR.
And what is that way?
STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY SIR.
I can't hear you.
STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY SIR.
We do not train to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak. Here, in the streets, in competition: A man confronts you, he is the enemy. An enemy deserves no mercy.

(26,355 posts)Good point!
Ryan both has the fundie/social conservative credentials that will get him the authoritarian/teabagger/fundie votes, and he's got the big money/bankster/corporate-psychopath credentials to rake in the support from the Koch-heads.
