ABC - "Romney Campaign Requested 'Several' Years of Tax Returns of VP Contenders"

I assume that Ryan did not refuse the request on the ground that he is "not a business," but a people? Or, perhaps he did, but Romney then pointed out that "corporations are people, my friend."

CHARLOTTE - Mitt Romney requested "several" years of tax returns from his potential running mates, a senior adviser to the candidate said Saturday, suggesting that those considered for the ticket may have been required to reveal more financial documents that the candidate himself.

In a briefing with reporters in Virginia Saturday, senior adviser Beth Myers, who was charged with headed the vice president selection process, declined to specify exactly how many years of tax returns were required, saying only that "several" were requested.

Several, by definition, implies more than two years.

Romney, who has been under intense pressure to release more of his own tax returns by both Democrats and members of his own party, has so far released his 2010 returns and an estimate for his 2011 returns.

I should think this requirement would put Romney in an even worse position. Frustratedlady Aug 2012 #1

What's good for the goose is good for the gander type of situation.

How else can you look at his refusal to release more tax returns, other than he is hiding something. He either didn't pay much/any, or he pulled some of his shenanigans that he knows was pushing the envelope (if legal) or lied about values of his holdings/stock...SOB, for example.

His refusal puts a big black mark on his name and, because of that, many Independents and/or weak Republicans will walk away without bothering to keep up the pressure and wait for the results. It isn't worth it. He's tainted material.

It is now the MSM's responsibility to dig further. Used to be that when they smelled blood, it was impossible to fend them off. Now, they are wimps with no initiative.

Maybe Rachael or Ed will pursue Mitt.

Two events.. two total. One annoucning the VP pick drew 8k people (supposedly) then the next was a staged event later at a Nascar facility (3K)

BUUT in their rush to declare Ryan as a rockstar draw, most people who would have made plans to attend that event, wouldn't have known who the VP choice would be. They were most likely people bussed in, invited, etc. BEFORE the pick was made. How lame.

You have to have tickets to attend those events, and you have to be invited. Lies.. more lies...

A whole new way to frame the tax return story. Romney picked his VP candidate early to change the subject. But all roads lead back to his missing returns!

and was repeatedly asked by Stephanopoulos about this. He evaded to the best of his (limited) ability, but eventually conceded that it was "a bunch".
