Hillary Clinton wins debate, but her lead on Bernie Sanders slips: Poll

Most people who watched the first Democratic presidential debate believe Hillary Clinton turned in the best performance of any of the five candidates on stage — but it did not give the former secretary of state a significant bump in the race for the Democratic nomination.

(snip)

A CNN/ORC survey conducted last month showed Clinton (42 percent) with an 18-point lead on Sanders (24 percent) and 20-point advantage on Vice President Joe Biden (22 percent), who is said to be still mulling a late presidential bid. But the new poll — conducted over three days after the debate — shows support for Clinton (45 percent) is up just 3 percentage points while support for Sanders (29 percent) has jumped five. Support for Biden, who did not take part in the debate, has slipped four points to 18 percent, the survey found.

CNN/ORC poll, Sept. 17-19, 2015:

• Clinton - 42%
• Sanders - 24%
• Biden - 22%

CNN/ORC poll, Oct. 14-17, 2015:

• Clinton - 45%
• Sanders - 29%
• Biden - 18%

One possible reason for Sanders’ post-debate rise: Those who watched the debate viewed him favorably. According to the survey, 84 percent of Democrats saw Sanders in a favorable light, compared with 62 percent of Democratic voters generally. Clinton’s favorability among Democrats who watched the debate was virtually the same as it is among those who did not.

Of particular note is the last paragraph, people exposed to Bernie like him and his message more and as his name recognition grows, his rise in the polls will accelerate.

I'm convinced that if the corporate media pundits hadn't instantly overruled their own focus groups, online polls and Internet activity giving evidence that Bernie had scored with the American People on substance and character while giving the debate "win" to Hillary on style, Bernie would be moving up even faster.

No doubt this instantaneous and contradictory propaganda push by the pundits, helped Hillary with many people that never saw the debate but only caught clips and hearsay from the corporate media.

This is what Scultz was afraid of.

I am not opposed to a small tax hike for paid maternity leave (information form other posts on DU). but I am sure that getting to know him will not be pleasant for all.

get to know Bernie have a pretty high opinion of him.

Polling conducted in August 2011 by Public Policy Polling found that Sanders's approval rating was 67% and his disapproval rating 28%, making him then the third-most popular senator in the country.[90] Both the NAACP and the NHLA have given Sanders 100 percent voting scores during his tenure in the Senate.[91]

There will be much misleading propaganda from the corporate media in regards to Bernie's plans to reform our government and nation because they have a vested interest in our highly dysfunctional status quo establishment.

Many if not most of the corporate media will use scare tactics against Bernie because they fear his message will awaken the American People or pop them out of the corporate supremacist/oligarch bubble that has been so carefully crafted for us to live in over the past at least half-century.

It could reasonably be argued this bubble goes back to the dawn of television when Joe McCarthy used it most effectively to wage his red scare witch hunts.

This is just a warmer and fuzzier modern version of it, the trillion dollar question is will the American People fall for it again?

I don't believe so.
