2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDavid Plouffe: I never thought I’d write this email
During the most intense days of the 2008 primary, while I was serving as the Obama campaign manager, I would never have imagined writing this email.
But eight years later, I believe Hillary Clinton should -- and will -- be our next president. She will make an outstanding and worthy successor to President Obama. She will do big and important things -- and we will all look back and be proud of whatever we did to help elect her.
Heres what I (and so many fellow Obama campaign veterans) have learned about Hillary Clinton:
She doesnt quit -- and there were times I wish she had! But you have to deeply admire that strength and persistence. From her job at the Childrens Defense Fund to her work as First Lady of the United States, as a U.S. Senator for New York, and as the Secretary of State, shes been working everyday to make peoples lives better.
You wont find anyone in this race more determined than Hillary to make sure every single American has a fair shot to live up to their potential. There is no one more prepared, more diligent, or more ready with detailed plans for how to make it happen.
Hillary will protect President Obamas legacy -- and like President Obama before her, she will make history. I look forward to the day my daughter, who was born a little more than 48 hours after the glorious scene in Grant Park in 2008, will know just as well as my son that she can grow up to be anything she wants, even president of the United States.
The stakes in this election are enormous. The difference between Hillary and a Trump, Carson, or Rubio could not be more profound. Once again, we need a president who understands the challenges we face -- someone who can and will do something about it.
Hillary Clinton is that leader. And if we step up to fight alongside her, shell be the next president of the United States.
Go win this thing, Madam Secretary.
Sincerely,
David Plouffe

(13,685 posts)Of course he wants Clinton. Bernie is not an establishment person. He represents real change, and the establishment wants to keep on going over the cliff, hoarding money.

(13,685 posts)Just like they did to Obama. Barely even passed a health care act and then they lost the 2010 elections because the establishment Dems were so very fine.
Hillary will do even worse than Obama because the People will do the same as what they did, once Obama turned his back on us. Even Plouffe says Hillary will carry on the Obama ways.
Don't any of you get it? People want change, not the same old, same old.

(13,685 posts)Well, then. We should have won every election since, eh?
See.... that's the polls that matter, elections, and what Obama failed to deliver was real change, and that's what Plouffe expects from Hillary.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)We who support Sanders just want to take the change and hope much, much further than Obama has.
I do not want Hillary appointing the Sec. of Treasury or of Commerce or a Fed chair or Supreme Court justices.
I want Bernie to make the appointments.
Hillary can go back into the Senate. She would get elected in New York.
In California, there isn't much enthusiasm for Hillary although some of the more timid Bernie fans think Hillary will win. They prefer Bernie, but think Hillary will win. That's probably where a lot of people are.
We Bernie supporters have to change that.
Hillary will not be able to change much. She doesn't know how. She doesn't have a plan. She is to cautious with her ideas.

(108,990 posts)And we are FAR better off than when he entered office during the CRISIS of the great recession in 2008.
He succeeded in pulling us back from the brink. Because we never fell over the cliff, too many people fail to recognize how far we nearly fell -- and how far we would have fallen, if a Rethug instead of Obama was in office.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)And helped Obama be successful. He coulda been more successful but Obama didn't listen to Bernie enough, and that's one reason Bernie feels he HAS to run this race; Make things better!
pnwmom
(108,990 posts)It's NONSENSE to say that Obama didn't listen to Bernie enough. Bernie voted for every major initiative of Obamas.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)But then Obama appointed banksters and Monsanto people and big business lobbyists to positions of power in his admin.
Bernie knows that was bad and that's why we say Obama turned his back on us.
Look, quit making me make Obama look bad. Obama's almost history. Let's look forward to the day Bernie gets his hands on the government and steers it in the correct course with real progressives in place, within his admin. There are lots of good leftists out there who have great ideas and who need to be given a chance to make us better.

(43,869 posts)Would that be the party circa 1828-1860 that favored republicanism, slavery, a weak federal government, states' rights, agrarian interests (especially Southern planters) and strict adherence to the Constitution?
Or the Democratic party of the late 1800s like the pro-business Bourbon Democrats or the 'solid south' racist Democrats?
The Agrarian Democrats of the early 1900s that put Woodrow Wilson in power?
The FDR coalition of 1932 - 1968?
The 'New Left' influenced Democrats of the late 60s and 70s?
The 'New' Democrats of the 1980s - present?
The 'progressive' movement?
The Green Party and American Progressive party are already pushing what you want.

(13,685 posts)The name of this site is Underground, not establishment suck-ups.
You and a few of you here are doing your best to uphold the failing system and your attack on a member here telling them to go somewhere else is just tasteless and PUMA like.
wyldwolf
(43,869 posts)RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)And it is wrong.
But let's deal with you telling someone else to go somewhere else and leave the Dem party which they wish to help change.
I mean, who the hell are you to attack anyone in that manner? We see this from the Hill supporters all the time and it makes DU suck.

(13,685 posts)And as someone who watched the shit go down, the reason bush got away with stealing the 2000 election was because establishment Dems sat there with a thumb up their ass.
Skinner didn't, but the congress and other elected officials screwed us bad.
What have you ever done about it?

(13,685 posts)We want a better party and you hate that we do.

So, how will you console your stated PUMA consciousness with the "I'll vote for Bernie" plan? It must be awful to find yourself in such a deep hole?
