Pennsylvania Democrats have long claimed that the Republican-supported voter ID bill was a bid to deliver the state to Mitt Romney. Now that it has cleared its first legal hurdle, they're working to ensure that the law doesn't have that effect.
Those party-based efforts -- focused on identifying and assisting voters who lack ID cards -- are occurring alongside a continued ramp-up of state outreach work, which will include a full slate of community events, links on public library computers to information on ID requirements, and television ads poised to hit airwaves next month.

(1,703 posts)with an envelope stamped "EXPEDITE". It was an application for her friend who needs her birth certificate from North Carolina. In order for it to be expedited (received within the next four weeks) the process has cost her $40.00. Tell me that's not a poll tax. These old people are living on Social Security, and it's not enough to keep a roof over their heads, pay utilities and eat. This is ridiculous.
I hope Judge Castille does what's right and stops all this nonsense before the election. He's a Repug, but he's known to be fair.

(4,551 posts)The latest Pennsylvania poll by Franklin & Marshall showed Obama ahead by only 5 points this week, so it's important to register as many people as possible to offset whatever voter suppression may take place in November.

(15,071 posts)name does not agree exactly with the name at the polling place (e.g., middle name on one, but not on the other, or middle initial not on one but on the other) the voter could have the vote (a provisional one) invalidated.
People will have 6 days to fix it at the courthouse. This will cause long lines where it could drive people away.
In other words, just because one is registered to vote does not mean the vote will work. Of 8 people i know, 5 have this discrepancy.
The bullshit "substantially conform" in Act 18 means nothing because poll workers will play it safe and demand exact matches for the poll book and photo ID. The Dept of State database (where one can check to see if he/she is registered) does not include a field for middle name or initial.
It is going to be chaos.

(6,150 posts)Here in Baltimore, MD, we've been driving up to Pennsylvania every weekend, but I heard today that we have shifted our focus to Virginia, because the campaign is confident that PA is in the bag!!!!
Knowing that the work is being done to make sure that every registered voter can vote - that just makes me feel all cozy.
