Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton has received more campaign cash from drug companies than any candidate in either party, even as she proudly declares the industry is one of her biggest enemies.
Clinton accepted $164,315 in the first six months of the campaign from drug companies, far more than the rest of the 2016 field, according to an analysis by Stat News.
Cash from drug companies poured in despite Clintons tough public stance on the industry. Last month, she unveiled a plan to combat rising drug prices by clamping down on the rules for pharmaceuticals. In last weeks Democratic debate, she listed off drug companies among the enemies she is most proud to have made in politics.
Clinton has taken a harder stance on drug companies than any other candidate besides Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has also skewered Big Pharma as he seeks the Democratic nomination.

(20,709 posts)5. None did. It's the same lie repeated over and over. Like I said in another OP,
apparently Bernie supporters can't tell the difference between corporations and their employees.

to pretend Bernie is "in the pocket" of Kaiser Permanente, The US Navy, Federal Coal, Boeing etc.
That's the problem when posters don't separate individual and corporate donations.
It doesn't surprise me that individual liberal democrats work for those groups. Additionally I have a friend who is retired from a drug company. Big ole liberal democrat.

Snip: At the same time, she has accepted significant contributions from individual donors. She received contributions, for example, from two executives at Jazz Pharmaceuticals, which raised the price of a drug used to treat sleep disorders by more than 800 percent, from roughly $2 to $19 a pill.
Each of the executives, chief executive Bruce Cozadd and Robert McKague, a senior vice president, contributed the maximum individual amount, $2,700.
Asked whether Clinton would continue to accept contributions from pharmaceutical executives, spokesman Josh Schwerin said she is committed to protecting consumers from drug companies who put profits ahead of people.
During the Democratic presidential candidate debate on Tuesday, when asked which enemy they are proudest to have, both Sanders and Clinton mentioned drug companies.

Some things stink in politics and one of them is hypocrisy.

(11,417 posts)10. You don't know that indivivuals contribute to campaigns not companies.
And they can only contribute $2,700.
The ignorance paraded as knowledge by some here is mind boggling
How about a few smilies for added meaningless emphasis

(99,700 posts)11. Some liberal activists believe she should stop taking the industry’s money
Why didn't she give back the $ from the top two at Jazz Pharmaceuticals mentioned above?
Same link.
I do think she should give it back, said Roger Hickey, co-director of Campaign for Americas Future, a liberal group that wants all of the presidential candidates to fight rising drug prices. She should show that shes serious about cutting out the influence of the drug companies so she can be sure that her reforms will be fair.
And
On Thursday, Sanders rejected a $2,700 contribution from Martin Shkreli, the chief executive officer of Turing Pharmaceuticals, who famously raised the price of a drug used by cancer and AIDS patients to $750 a pill. His decision came after Stat brought the contribution to the attention of the campaign.
