The "rape issue" could be a "deal breaker" for many swing voters.

Republicans are apparently going ahead with a platform plank which doesn't allow abortion even in the event of rape. It is easy to see why they might do this, because if one says "abortion is always wrong" except to protect the life of the mother, it is hard to make an exception for rape. But even many anti-abortion voters do make that exception. Or at the least, they will accept the use of the "morning after" pill in rape cases. This is why the Akin comments are causing so much heartburn in Republican ranks. Because Akin said out loud what many in the hard line anti-abortion crowd think (including Ryan) and it is way out of line with most voters. Akin's comments, regardless of the outcome, make it harder for Romney to distance himself from the party platform.

No it isn't easy to see why rape or incest would NOT be an exception. It has nothing to do with still_one Aug 2012 #2

if abortion is murder then you cannot abort for rape.

but, she did not want to have sex. was forced.

so.... she has to suck it up. cause murder is murder. you do not get to say, this murder is ok and this one is wrong. then it is judging and punishing her for life choices, not the issue of murder.

they could not argue it. they do not like hearing that argument. and in the lacking of logic, they will hold firm.

being pro-life, it has everything to do with abuse of women, even in some cases by women themselves

The ultimate hypocrisy is that most who have these views are against helping the poor or those who are in single parent houses

The majority of rants I've heard from the pro-fetus folk are from those who also supported (and still support) George Bush's war of "You threatened my daddy" which killed thousands of young Americans.
