Maybe I'm being a little too cynical here

But I think that since Akin was only lambasted for openly saying what most Republicans think in private, that he was blasted by his fellow Republicans in public for MSM consumption, but patted on the back in private.

So? So they pull funding that is public record, Senate Republican Committee, RNC, and PACS whose donors are public, and fund the hell out of him by the dirty money Super-PACS whose donors are hidden from public record.

That way, everybody on the radical right is happy. Rolls-Ryan and Yertle McTurtle can all say, "we urged him to resign, it's on camera!" Rove can say, "see? I pulled my money from him!" And Akin can say, "See? I've got plenty of supporters, more than enough to conduct my campaign."

I can't imagine Akin would have smugly stayed in this race if he thought he'd run out of money soon, or be ostracized if he won.

Ergo? Ergo, I think he was told in private that someone (Adelson and Koch, for example, not to name any names) would have his financial back all the way to the Senate floor.

The only person who can stop him is Claire McCaskill--and a few million Missouri voters. McCaskill is a Blue Dog, but from Missouri, that's about as good as we could hope for these days, and she's a whole lot better than a "Senator Akin."

I offer: Christine O'Donnell, Sharon Angle, not to mention some already members of Congress, such as Akin himself, my very own Pete Sessions, Louie Gohmert, Michele Bachmann, etc. etc.

Their leadership LOVES morons.

Bottom line: their outrage is *FEIGNED*. It's not real. They just got caught.

Now, they're making it appear that they are all against Akin in public. In private, they're cheering him on. In public, they are outraged that he was careless in speaking aloud on a subject matter to which they all agree.

They have enough money to buy that election, anyway, and it doesn't appear that Akin is being too hurt by this.

By the end of September, it'll all blow over and they still have their extremist candidate.
