2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAre there any GOOD polls/news today?
Seems like it's all bad news today for Democrats/President Obama (re: Wisconsin, Michigan, Massachusetts Senate). I'll try to avoid high ledges and sharp objects and remind myself that it's still August and that we haven't had our convention yet nor the debates but, man, it doesn't look good at the moment. Listening to a Diane Rehm segment show interview segment about voter fraud, Election 2000, and new voter ID laws didn't help much either. The only silver lining (if you want to call it that) is that "establishment" Republicans are having a meltdown over Akin's candidacy and apparent determination to stay in his race.
Edited to add: Oh yeah, and more talk about war with Iran (Ryan adviser suggests vote to authorize war with Iran).

(1,277 posts)They are going to have a "pretty good" couple of weeks here. There's the convention and the media love affair with Ryan etc. The cream will rise to the top in due time, however.

Eventually they too pass into the sewer and are gone before you know it.

(28,394 posts)I posted the New York Siena poll earlier today. It showed Obama had increased his lead in New York from +27 to +29.

(19,458 posts)..nothing but third rate, GOP, pollsters.
Best advice. Ignore the polls.. it's become a cottage industry of the GOP. Most important polls are the polls we vote in on Election Day, and the things we do to help others get there to vote.

(24,414 posts)I will try to ignore the polls as much as possible, particularly during the next week or two. It just feels depressing living in a country where Republicans can say and do the most asinine things- and still get elected to the highest levels of government even though most of them I wouldn't elect to be dogcatchers! *ugh*

(4,551 posts)I'm going to discount the MICHIGAN poll for 2 reasons, even though it's supposedly by a Democratic-leaning firm:
1. All other recent Michigan polling has shown Obama ahead, including from Republican-leaning pollsters
2. This pollster (Baydoun/Foster) even has Hoekstra (R) ahead of Stabenow (D) in the Senate race despite the fact that no other pollster all year has shown him ahead of her:
Observe at the following link:

(737 posts)How can a BLUE state which can elect a Democratic President, YET have a REPUBLICAN Governor or Republican State Reps or Senators???

(25,415 posts)I see many people here don't get what is going on in Mass. Both Mass and CT has plenty of Repubs, they are just the more moderate type. CT and Mass (and Rhode Island) lean blue, very blue. But there are Repubs that can win here, on personality and if they defy the main party now and then.
