While Republicans at the national level were in a hurry to shove him aside, Republican opinion had not hardened against Mr. Akin in Missouri, in part because of the salience of the abortion issue. “The congressman is totally, firmly, solidly pro-life,” Sharon Barnes, a member of the state Republican central committee, said, adding that Mr. Akin believed “that abortion is never an option.”

Ms. Barnes echoed Mr. Akin’s statement that very few rapes resulted in pregnancy, adding that “at that point, if God has chosen to bless this person with a life, you don’t kill it.”

Ms. Barnes said that she believed that the controversy would blow over, and that once people in the state became more familiar with Mr. Akin, they would learn “what a great, conservative, godly man Todd Akin is, and they’ll put his comment in its proper context.”

7. Sadly, I live here in East Kansas, and ...

the people outside of StL, KC, Columbia and Jeff City are a bunch of TEA Party racist pigs. This state is in a race to fit in with the Deep South in everything they do - from abortion bills and attacking women's rights to evolution and perverting science education and text books to the damn state university joining the SEC this year.

East Kansas desperately wants to get into the one club I wish this state would have steered clear of - lucky for me, I can move; sadly, that's not always an immediate option for me or even a potential option for others. I really do feel like a fish out of water if I get out of the urban centers in Missouri...its quite disorienting to see so many people getting royally fucked by the very demagogues, corporations and charlatans that stand and cheer for like underfed seals.

Its no accident that the subhuman slime that masquerades as "Dana Loesch" is such a TEA Party favorite - she is emblematic of everything wrong and that I hate in this FUBAR state...
