Huckabee Breaks With GOP, Throws Support Behind Akin

Aug 23, 2012 at 3:11 pm

To make his support for Akin crystal clear, Huckabee sent a letter to his supporters Thursday accusing the GOP establishment of trying to bully Akin out of the race for an honest mistake:

The Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren’t rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound. In a Party that supposedly stands for life, it was tragic to see the carefully orchestrated and systematic attack on a fellow Republican. Not for a moral failure or corruption or a criminal act, but for a misstatement which he contritely and utterly repudiated. I was shocked by GOP leaders and elected officials who rushed so quickly to end the political life of a candidate over a mistaken comment in an interview. This was a serious mistake, but it was blown out of proportion not by the left, but by Akin’s own Republican Party. Is this what the party really thinks of principled pro-life advocates? Do we forgive and forget the verbal gaffes of Republicans who are “conveniently pro-life” for political advantage, but crucify one who truly believes that every life is sacred?

Wow. Huckabee was an actual member of freerepublic a decade ago. They LOVED him as a brother. That's gone. Here's a sample:

Huckster is probably getting a payload of cash from Soros Inc. to fuel Akin’s delusions.

How did the Huckster find it possible to lump Sarah Palin, Paul Ryan, and the Tea Party Express in with the nameless "Republican Elites"?
You can already see how this plays out - Gomer the Pious leads his band of followers into keeping Akin in the race, watches him get crushed in November, and then blames the "GOP Establishment" for the defeat.

Like they let “Mucaca” go away? Yet George Allen still almost pulled that race off and now he is back running for the same seat. I’m sorry, but Akin’s comments being as ignorant as they were, he got railroaded by the GOPe, not the dems. He admitted the error, apologised, and with a double digit lead, it could have been overcome.

Mike Huckabee probably thinks he has a special responsibility for “Tool” Akin, or “Tooth” Akin, or whatever his name is, because of his “good Christian values”. And it was on Huckabee’s show, where these double gaffes were recited in almost one breath.

But cuss it all, you just can’t fix stupid. Apologize, maybe, but why not at least plead ignorance of up-to-date medical information? There is no “magical” way the complex process of conception is simply shut down because the experience was highly traumatic.

And why does any practicing conservative want to simply GIVE AWAY what should have been an almost slam-dunk win for the GOP?

Maybe Akin is doing God’s work. But does that mean getting Claire McCaskill re-elected to the Senate?

Because that is the effect.

Sorry, that is just retarded. Akin had nothing to do with R/R.

Thank You for your courage. I’m sure you’ll get flamed for taking a stand. I think I’m with the majority of commentors here at FR in that I consider myself a conservative and against RINO’s; however, I’ve never fully understood the dislike of Mike Huckabee here. I voted for him in 2008 primaries because I thought he was by far the most pro-2nd Ammendment candidate on the ballot.
