Related: About this forumDick Morris: Akin Story Is Now "A Big Plus For Romney"
Dick Morris: The point is, you have to play the media coverage to get your message out. The Akin story is a perfect example of that. I think that story is a big plus for Romney right now. Because the story is not that some kooky Republican Congressman running for the Senate said something stupid, it is that the responsible leaders of the Republican party; Romney, McConnell, Ryan, and all of them, are piling on Akin to resign and he wont. That really sends a message to pro-choice women that they dont need to be afraid of Romney. That they dont need to vote for Obama because of that. And I think Romney is spinning this beautifully, and it is de-fanging the fear motivation in getting Democrats out to vote, particularly Democrat women, out to vote for Obama.
Laura Ingraham: But now you see Democrats coming forward and theyre saying, up until a few days ago, Paul Ryan and Todd Akin agreed on these issues, and they worked together on that human life amendment. They defined it forcible rape versus rape. If he was with him then, how can we be with him now? Again, theyre taking that nugget to try to divide the voters.
Dick Morris: All of this makes it clear: Romneys not there. All of this makes it clear that the Republican party did, in fact, nominate Romney. Not Gingrich or Santorum. And Obama would much rather run against Gingrich or Santorum. He can use them (unfairly) to scare women. But he cant use Mitt Romney that way. And I think that this is a very effective move by Romney. Sometimes on defense you score points you couldnt possibly score on offense.

Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)by vowing to allow abortion........in cases of rape..................today. Who knows what he will support tomorrow? I mean, he was previously on record supporting personhood amendments, which completely ban abortion. The RNC party platform doesn't make any exceptions either.
Given that Mitt ALSO supports allowing employers to determine what kind of birth control coverage women might be able to get, I'd say that any pronouncements about women not needing to be afraid of him seem extremely idiotic.

(13,992 posts)Seriously. You're right. He's wrong on just about every subject, just about every time. A stopped clock is right twice a day, but I'm pretty sure Dick can't even claim that.

(35,699 posts)that a plus? This also promises to bleed into the convention next week. And it plays into a weakness in that Ryan is cheek to cheek with Akin on the underlying issue.
Lex
(34,108 posts)and it will continue to grow with comments like Akin's tied to the Republicans (and thus, Mittens).
