2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCan I just say one thing?
I support Bernie Sanders.
I don't, however, think Hillary Clinton supporters are terrible people or that Clinton is the devil.
Assuming Clinton wins the nomination, I'll happily vote for her.
Thanks for listening.

(6,837 posts)I just sincerely believe Hillary would be a better president than any of the Republicans.

(31,849 posts)Wait ... I rebuke you, and cast you into the pit of lukewarm darkness, for suggesting that the lesser of two evils, really is better than the greater of the two evils!

(63,645 posts)I support Hillary Clinton.

(146,331 posts)All three candidates would make a good President. I'll be voting for the nominee next November. Right now, though, I'm supporting Hillary Clinton.

(3,580 posts)I was hoping Bernie would run for the dem nomination. It will make for a better candidate to go up against the GOP. I will vote for him if he is the nominee. I'll vote for OMalley if he is the nominee.

(2,570 posts)at what point do you hold your nose versus vote happily for the lesser warmonger?

(63,645 posts)The constant negativity is exhausting. Please do us all a favor and self-delete.
(To everyone else, please don't take the bait.)
stupidicus
(2,570 posts)so your request (unless it is really a demand and punative measures await me) is perfectly understandable.
That however is insufficient for a delete.
I stand by my question about "happily".
I'll be using a pair of vice grips on my nose should HC become the nominee, but...

(72,790 posts)That's the way it is. Too much attention is put on the action and behavior of supporters of Candidate A and Candidate B.
Supporters and detractors have no influence on my vote.
CajunBlazer
(5,648 posts)It is human nature to judge candidates by their supporters. Down here in the South when I notice that a bunch of rednecks waving rebel flags are supporting a particular candidate, that's my first clue that I am probably not going happy with that candidate.
Even when one make a conscious effort to overlook bad behavior on part of another candidate's supporters, subconsciously at least it makes it more difficult to be energized to support their candidate if he or she becomes the nominee.
As always, bad behavior has consequences.

(4,280 posts)I don't think any of us want to see a Republican President. I'll also vote for Hillary is she is the nominee.
Doc Holliday
(719 posts)But if said nominee is not Bernie Sanders, it will be a vote against the GOP nominee as opposed to a vote for whomever.
I won't be voting "happily" (it's hard to be happy with a clothespin on your nose).... but I'll do it.
And nobody's candidate is "the devil".... unless you're a FOX-watcher, of course.

(20,043 posts)I like O'Malley right now. However I will happily vote for our nominee, whether it's O'Malley, Sanders or Clinton. I don't think any of them or their supporter are the devil.
LuckyTheDog
(6,837 posts)... just not as much as I like Sanders. But, sure, I'd vote for him in the general election.

(15,245 posts)The real horror is what the Republican Party represents especially in the 21st Century. The Democratic candidates for whatever faults are the only logical choice.

(5,648 posts)If you are not voting for the ultimate Democratic nominee you have three choices:
1) You can vote for the Republican - result: Well, that's obvious
2) You can vote for a 3rd party candidate - result: It might feel good, but bottom line you have deprived the Democratic nominee of a vote he or she might need to win your state and/or the national vote count which is important from the ability to govern standpoint.
3) You can not vote - Result: Except for the "feel good" part, same as 2.
Conclusion: Any liberal who chooses not to vote for the Democratic candidate is voting against his or her selfish self interests - and that usually isn't very smart.
That's the rational approach. You can take the emotional approach if you aren't rational.

(51,010 posts)OP after OP saying how evil and awful the "other side" is tend to be those who post the "LOOK AT ME" threads between elections. I don't even believe it's really about the politics for them. They want the attention, they feed on argument and they make a science of shit stirring. This is just another opportunity for them to do that.
