(51,308 posts)As I've said, I'm watching this with my 89 year old mom.
She was very impressed with O'Malley. She was in stitches laughing at Bernie's answers toward the end of that segment and impressed with all of his answers in general.
She and I are undecided, though she has told me she doesn't intend to vote for Hillary.
This should be interesting as it continues.

(16,180 posts)Great great statements
"I have Never spent my time trying to figure out ways to prevent people from being able to vote".."it's cowardly and unamerican"

(6,592 posts)And you have no way of knowing how much I have or haven't done, it goes without saying. For all you know, I could be a sock for RBG....
For the record, it wasn't me that alerted on the post I replied to. I think it's pretty funny, though.

ejbr
(5,856 posts)he was referring to the fact that the majority of African Americans understand that Democrats are looking out for them more than Republicans; therefore, he was asking why whites do not have the same understanding of politics as blacks.
Avalux
(35,015 posts)Maybe you can go back and watch that again because you definitely heard it wrong.

(29,673 posts)people must have thought that also, as they immediately went to some of the AA's in the audience.....and some of the looks were quite telling. JMHO.

(27,310 posts)Thus. Working class and poor whites vote against their own interests. If he had said AAs vote against their interests, it would appear as if he is dissing them for voting democratic.

(27,310 posts)if he had said white, my explanation would stand.
SusanCalvin
(6,592 posts)Democratic is the best that can be done in our system.
And now that I think of it, it's another example of his tone-deafness in this area. I hate to say it, but it's currently true. Really hope that changes.
I am NOT dissing Bernie. I'm inclined to the same type of tone-deafness, but I like to think I try to listen.

(314 posts)activist Saul Alinsky referred to the haves with all their power trying to get more,
the have nots desparate to get something, anything, and the have a little want mores. This is that large swarth of middle class voters, overwhelmingly white I think who don't feel secure enough in their economy to take chances. They vote for the status quo, oftentimes against their best interests. A thought
NorthCarolina
(11,197 posts)vote GOP against their own best interests. The black community here still votes DEM, but they don't turn out in huge numbers.
I understood TOTALLY what Bernie was saying, and it has nothing to do with omiting, disparaging, neglecting to mention, or forgetting about Black people.

(6,592 posts)I haven't heard him refer to his campaign as "they"...
"We," yes I have heard. And it's accurate, as the campaign isn't just him.

(3,660 posts)and when you refer to yourself by your name as a subject, that's third person. Not that I give a toss unless it's overdone but still...
SusanCalvin
(6,592 posts)That is a little odd on the face of it, but I didn't hear it in context.
And, yeah, you're right about my grammar. I'm currently having trouble distinguishing anything other than first person and everything else, it would seem.
PosterChild
(1,307 posts)... all politicos do it. It isn't considered unpolitic to continually say I this and I that so they use we instead . Sometimes they start off an answer with we then devolved back to I as they fill in details and elaborate .

(10,495 posts)Hillary is now trying to suck up to the black community. She doesn't plan to have Bernie steal her black vote. I shouldn't be so cynical, but if I felt she was sincere I would be happy. She is going through the list of unarmed black deaths by cops shamelessly. I am glad that she chose this to run on for the attention it gets.

(39,961 posts)She's too "busy" to bother with the little people.
Yet you will keep hearing the meme that she has the African American vote sewed up.
Which is also false, since if you actually talk to African Americans, you get an entirely different picture.

(107 posts)and thought Bernie did a great job. Hillary gave really vague answers, I was not impressed. O'Malley did pretty good, too. And bonus, we went out for a beer afterwards and met Rachel Maddow. She is really nice. Took pictures with us and said good night to us when she left.
