2016 Postmortem

I was particularly drawn to the first question Rachel posed to Hillary - about starting out in Arkansas - but winding up in New York after Bill's presidency. I believe that the move to NY State was a strategic move to begin her run for the presidency for herself. She targeted NY State - because she wanted to be a Senator from a big important state. I believe she could have probably gone back to Arkansas and run for the Senate and win there - but - Arkansas doesn't have the impact to a presidential resume' as NY State has.
It was also interesting that she hid behind her being Senator from the State of New York - when she was asked about her big money donations from Wall St; her speaking jobs from Wall St.; etc. She seemed to use that she was the Senator of NY State as an excuse that she catered to the big money of Wall St. - where in my opinion she was already campaigning for her ultimate goal of becoming the first woman president.
Paraphrasing her answer - I was the Senator for all of NY State and therefore I had to cater to Wall St too.
As much as she says she went to Wall St and wagged her finger at them and told them to stop their greedy ways - she had no impact on them. We fell into an economic recession anyway. It sounds good as to what she says about her finger wagging - but in reality - Wall St. is in her back pocket and nothing will change going forward for the Wall St. banksters should she be elected president.
In contrast - either Bernie or O'Malley will push for change in this area - Hillary will be the status quo candidate for the Wall St banksters.

(31,849 posts)I missed most of Martin O'Malley's segment, so I have no impression; but, of HRC and Bernie, I came away thinking ...
Bernie was saying: "I know the problems, you know the problem, I have my thoughts; and, here is the answer. Get behind me and let's make it happen."
HRC was saying: I know the problems, you know the problem, I have my
Personally, I see the latter as the more practical, and my preferred, approach.

Similar to what you characterize Clinton. "I have my thoughts answer; but, let's get together and figure it out, so we can make it happen."

(20,709 posts)I can see the appeal. For example, paraphrasing Bernie's answer on gun control, basically he was saying that he just doesn't care about people who get shot.
Wow, this is fun!

any different from Bernie's explanation for his Brady Bill votes?

(11,641 posts)on multiple occasions. Banks that violated US laws, rigged markets, and bilked their clients out of billions.
The Brady bill was one gun bill over 20 years ago. Sander's has repeatedly supported bans on assault weapons since that time.
Last year Hillary campaigned for Alison Lundergan Grimes who is big 2nd amendment supporter and a proud member of the NRA.
Grimes mentioned her longstanding invitation to meet McConnell at a gun range, before saying she opposes banning assault weapons but is open to considering changes to how guns are purchased at gun shows. "You shouldn't have different standards when you go to a gun store versus a gun show," Grimes said.
Grimes said she is a "big supporter" of the 2nd Amendment and does not believe that banning weapons "is the way to actually reduce the violence that we see here in the US." Instead, she said, the government should work harder "to make sure we educate people and that we enforce the law."
When the Herald-Leader submitted a questionnaire to the Senate campaigns in May, Grimes responded to a question about requiring background checks at gun shows by saying that she supports "reasonable background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill." She said at the time, "However, these efforts should not infringe upon the right of law-abiding Americans to possess firearms."

(19,877 posts)Hillary: She was early to call for tougher regulation of financial derivatives and private-equity markets, and in a 2007 speech called for major federal intervention in the market for subprime loans, arguing that we need to acknowledge that Wall Street has played a significant role in our current problems, and in particular the housing crisis.

Considering Bernie is in the top 10% of all productive Senators and has the name "the amendment king", you'd think you know better. Oh and there's more than this too!
Can you please show us all the bills Hillary introduced to protect the American people?

(11,990 posts)There was no open Senate seat in Arkansas in 2000. She would have had to wait until 2002. She also would have then had to run against an incumbent, something which was not an issue in New York since Moynihan was retiring and not seeking another term.
