2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat is Plan C for Republicans now that Mitt has shot his foot so many times he could use it for a
tea strainer? Latest is the "I don't heart poor people" fiasco which generate this tweet, among others: Romneys Im not concerned with the very poor line may be the most idiotic thing a politician has ever said, The Weekly Standards John McCormack tweeted.
No one is defending Mitt on this. Nary a one shouting "Let Mitt be Mitt!" So what's next?
The Republicans can't go to Plan B, because Mitt WAS Plan B. So what is Plan C?

(16,064 posts)barring intervention by aliens or something, Romney will be the nominee. Cons LIKE the fact that he doesn't care about the poor. That's a plus in their book. They don't defend him because they don't think he needs defending.

(10,000 posts)From the Republican standpoint, the comment probably does not matter. While Newt isn't quite done yet, the GOP leadership seems like they want to close ranks behind Willard and move forward.

(31,706 posts)This corrupt and inept party is imploding due to its own arrogance and ignorance. The "elite" tried to rebrand the party after the disastrous boooosh years by creating the teabaggers and now the tail wags the dog. There's no cohesion as you still have two far right asshats and the teabaggers and fundies can't get together behing either. Then there's the Paulbots who are set to turn things inside out as they gather delegates at the caucuses and can have a big say if there is a brokered convention (the nightmare of the establishment).
So you have Millard...whose tried to buy the nomination the same way georgie booooosh did but with charisma of a soap dish. His money shoved others aside and now they're gonna be stuck with Richie Rich who can't even win the approval of the majority of his party yet the electorate.
The chances of a third party showing up this year are as great as they have been since Perot in '92 and Wallace in '68. If Millard wins the nomination, look for large blocks to walk out and head for a third party either headed by a Gneut or some other demogogue. My hopes are it demoralizes enough of the teabaggers, Paulbots and fundies that they just stay home...
While I'm enjoying the current clown car demolition I can't wait for the blame games that will ensue when the rushpublicans get their asses handed to them in November.
