(5,621 posts)on guns vs. knives. It's very easy to blame guns, in this context, when there are not many guns in other high-income countries.
I would also like to see the stats on all countries, gun vs knife and high and low income countries.
And, while we are at it, what about fists and/or kicks. This twitter seems very cherry picked.

(5,621 posts)I am not an arms apologist. I believe that guns should be well regulated since they are here to stay, at least for the next 50 years or so.
What I disagree with is the tweet. Are guns used most in this country? Or, is it knives or fists, kicks or even choking that is the most used to abuse victims? From what I understand about personal violence, the abuser wants to be close to his victim, that is what excites him, the fear. Using guns would not give them that feeling of power, and would not let him keep abusing his prey. If he killed his victim, he would have to go out and find someone else who would take his abuse.
And, it is not only rich countries, how many women are abused in poor countries? Women are raped, have been burned alive, have had acid thrown on them and then be shunned by an entire community.
I found the tweet politically expedient and not helpful at all to women or other victims. And, if you are going to make a statement like that, please provide the proof, ie. the stats, all of them.
