Holy Cow, Clinton Believed She Won 2008 Right Up To the Convention (AND STILL DOES)!

From http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/19/insider/inside-the-hillary-clinton-campaign.html

This also shows how her campaign tactics are important and RELEVANT to who she is as a candidate. She SHOULD be judged on how she runs her campaigns (including the stunts she pulled in 2008 like How She Used Race As A Campaign Tactic: ).

"Inside The Hillary Clinton Campaign"

These commentators follow the campaign around the country and have interesting insights into the candidates.

There is only audio, but I will transcribe here at the 11:05 mark in the audio

"I would say that even up until the convention she didn't think she lost that election. I mean, she will consistently remind people that she got slightly more votes than Obama. If anything this campaign, she realizes that the delegate strategy in 2008 was a disaster. Her campaign failed her, they ignored the caucus states where you build up the delegates.
...
She will say "I got 24 million votes", she is still insistent that more people voted for her.

...
There is a direct correlation to how well she's doing to how she engages with the press. I think Pat and I both saw this in 2008 when it became apparent that she was probably going to lose the nomination. She started engaging a lot more, she started you know going to drinks with reporters, really sort of turning on the charm offensive, because you know what does she have a lot to lose. I've even seen it in the past few months, she's doing a lot more press avails when there were questions about her email, Bernie was surging in the polls, she has not done very many lately and her campaign says 'well she answered questions on the benghazi committee for 11 hours, she's doing interviews' but the Jimmy Kimmel show doesn't really count (laughter). It's about the direct correlation and gets back to Pat's point about Caution. Why open the vulnerability of saying something that's going to be taken out of context or blow up like she believes the political press tends to do when she can just rest quietly and enjoy her rising numbers.
...
I think she underestimates how voters also base their decisions on a personal connection to their candidates and who they want to see on TV for the next 4 or 8 years. So the stories about who she is are important. Podesta says personnel is policy, so writing about the dysfunction about her 2008 campaign isn't detached from policy because how is your White House going to run?"

5. Just like she was at this point in 2008. Actually Bernie is ahead of where Obama was

at this point in that election. I believe Obama had climbed to about 22% then, Bernie is not way into the 30s according to polls which are mostly not caught up with all the newly reg'd Dems there are going to be and here in NY, the many who got in before the early cut off date.

it will come down to Super Tues.

I don't see many states on the 2008 primary schedule that BS is ahead in polling

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/primary-calendar-and-results.html

http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/national.php?year=2008&elect=1 And yes she was ahead in primary vote then.....
unallocated delegates swung the tide against her.

And she's losing to most GOP candidates in nearly all the swing states where Bernie is doing better than all GOP candidates by double digits.

4. It was an amazingly close and competitive race.

A lot different that what we are witnessing today. Though I would argue if Obama or Clinton had written some of the things Sanders has they would have been forced to pull out of the race. Really was an amazing vetting process Clinton and Obama had. Obama went into the general so much stronger for it. Right now we only really have one candidate being vetted, that will make Clinton stronger going into the general.

8. Gosh Obama ran as a candidate who had written about his own drug use, coke, pot, you name it

He also had associations with anti gay hate preachers he was very proud of. One of them was infamous for going on the 700 Club and calling gay people vampires and child killers. Obama defended that choice and never said sorry. Vampires and child killers. So really when you archly imply things about Bernie, what's worse than 'I snorted much coke and now here is my friend who says gay people kill kids'? You tell me.
The folks who did the McClurkin hate preacher events need to wise up. Clown time is over, I'm not taking this shit any more.

Those of you who do this insinuate and imply tactic make me sick to my stomach.

"Those of you who do this insinuate and imply tactic make me sick to my stomach. "

That is one of the most foolish responses directed at me on this board to this day. Reality matters no matter how sick you and I both think it is. Your connection to Sanders is absurd considering todays climate. Also, like most of the country, aside of you, I could care less about Obamas drug use. Why do you think that is such a big deal? It isn't to the electorate at this point in time, nor should it be. As for the rest, I have railed against all of those exact points in my personal life and on this board. Sell your bullshit lecture to someone else.

I would exactly be dissing Jimmy Kimmel (and she also went on Colbert and Fallon). She also did get more votes, that seems fair for her to point out.

11. Clinton did win more votes in 2008...I see no harm in pointing this out.

Obama had a better strategy for winning the nomination, and he did.

By Obama, she was defeated by a once in a generation phenomenon, there are no such obstacles this time around.
