2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis might sound cruel to some people but...
Do you think the story about Romney's father and the rose was true? It sounded very made up to me. When people lie so much how do you know when they're telling the truth?seabeyond

(34,857 posts)At least from what I've heard, so, I might be off...
George (Mitt's dad) would leave his wife a rose every morning throughout their marriage. She awoke one day to find there was no rose and that's how she found out he died.
Now whether it's true or not, I don't know.
What is known is that George died running a treadmill in their home one morning and his wife did find his body ... but I don't know about the rose.

(44,576 posts)could it have been to have a local florist send her a rose? As CEO of a car company, he probably had a tax-deductible expense account.
Cenk Ugyr has a great line about it: "Hearing that story made me want to cast a vote -- for George Romney."

(19,458 posts)Pretty effing sad when you have to tell a story about someone else to make yourself seem likable by osmosis. If he had done something like that himself, then maybe he'd seem more human. But when someone's wife doesn't wake him up even though she's having a miscarriage, makes you wonder about how nice a husband Mitt could be.

(63,912 posts)Women should not be voluntarily alone during such a medical event! What if she started bleeding excessively? Plenty of things could have gone very wrong during that time. She had 5 other children...what would they do if she died?
At the very least, her story makes her out to be kind of afraid to wake up her husband (pretty terrible indictment of HIM)! I can't imagine such a story being told by Michelle about her husband!
Some information about miscarriage:
Danger Signs of Pregnancy
Most women will have normal pregnancies with no complications whatsoever. It is important, however, to learn the warning signs that something is wrong. Your doctor or midwife should alert you to potential problems that may be specific to your situation, but the general warning signs apply to every pregnancy, even the low risk variety.
Your midwife or doctor will routinely screen for potential problems throughout pregnancy. The blood pressure and urine testing that is done, as well as other potential tests, will help you know if you are in a higher risk category.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, it is important to call your practitioner immediately. They can advise you as to what further steps may be necessary or help you rule out the more serious complications. Delaying care may also make the situation more serious than if care had been begun when you first noticed the symptoms.

(24,096 posts)what kind of husband is Mitt if his wife is Afraid to wake him up, even in an emergency situation.
It had to be fear, what else?
I can't imagine anyone I know doing that... really bizarre.

(42,703 posts)Why would he have done that? He wasn't even governor yet. Wasn't running.
Suggesting he had that story "planted" is uncomfortably close to the kind of ridiculous argument the birthers make about the birth notice in the Hawaii paper. Chill out. Its a perfectly believable story that, as others have pointed out, says something about George and Lenore Romney and nothing about their son.

(18,048 posts)I got really tired of hearing this story all day long on the news shows, since it shows exactly what is messed up about politics. I don't care WHAT his parents did in their marriage.
At least they could be married in the first place.
Sorry billky, don't mean to seem as if I'm coming down on you (and I do think the story is true).... it's just driving me nuts that this story is getting so much attention. It's way less important than rising ocean waters.
