New Hampshire SEIU branch breaks with national org, backs Sanders

The New Hampshire branch of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is endorsing Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) for president, bucking the powerful labor group's international leadership.

The endorsement from SEIU Local 1984 comes just two days after the international union backed Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton for president.

“Bernie Sanders has a long history of fighting for working people,” said Richard Gulla, president of New Hampshire SEIU branch.

“He is not afraid to take on Wall Street and will fight against corporate greed and corruption,” Gulla added. "Bernie supports every worker earning a livable wage allowing them to care for and support their families. He is also respectful and supportive of the collective bargaining process. He understands that many of our young people cannot afford to attend college so they can prepare for the jobs of this century; and that our senior citizens are not being afforded a dignified retirement.”

rank and file must know he is their champion and that neither Hillary nor Bill ever fought to level the playing field for unions and Hillary did not walk picket lines or in demonstrations for Union representation or for worker demands until she wanted their backing for President. In fact I remember Obama doing it, much too little and his support for Unions on his bully pulpit has been scarce to say the least in speches I have heard. I have not been in a union since 1973, but I have fought for unions because people need them and unions need authentic and consistent supporters in government and Bernie is the only one since Bobbie Kennedy was assassinated when he supported the farm workers over the establishment run by big business.

I received an email today from my 1199 local of SEIU supporting the SEIU endorsement of Hillary.

I wrote back and told them that I did not agree and that I would be vocal in my dissent of their endorsement, and would vocally passionately endorse and support Bernie Sanders.

Then I forwarded it to my local union rep who is just as angry as I am.

We didn't even get a say in this.

grrrr

that their union leadership will follow the DNC choice for president...but they do not have to follow their union leadership nor the DNC...

Well done, New Hampshire SEIU...

I don't know what the people are smoking who think that Hillary beats Sanders on union issues and worker's rights.

Do what's necessary for maintaining the perks of power, not the interests of the constituency.
