2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDid Brooks finally grow up?
I saw him last night on PBS Brooks and Shields. He roundly criticized the GOP convention and made some excellent, excellent points about the party. What I remember:
* gop still acts as though improved GDP benefits everybody. Doesn't recognize that it only benefits business and that for several decades it hasn't translated into more jobs or better salaries, etc. for most people.
* the convention may as well have been a Small Business Bureau gathering. Still worships small business. Doesn't recognize that most people are not small business owners. Says nothing to the waitress with a kid she's trying to get through school, etc.
I still guess he's trying to be on the right side of history (which says a lot about what he thinks Romney's chances are), but he actually was making excellent points.

(45,274 posts)He's neither very smart or particularly knowledgeable about anything in particular, as witness his recent book, The Social Animal, in which he mixes a sophomoric understanding of psychology with some amazingly wrong-headed interpretations of the psych literature.
However, his head does sometimes seem to be slowly & uncertainly emerging from his ass. I hope the bright light in his eyes doesn't scare him into reinserting his head.
