Look, I was pissed off when people tried to make Hillary Clinton's health a thing

After she fell there were threads here saying she should sit out the election and enjoy being a grandma. I thought it was something of a low point for DU at that time, and it would be hypocritical of me to not say the same thing now for Sanders.

I trust that every candidate is smart enough to know when he or she can or cannot run. If they're willing to campaign, are committed to doing the job and are of sound mind, I don't care if they're on the older side of life expectancy.

Bernie is not my first choice for our nominee. But his age doesn't bother me in the slightest. I can only hope to be as healthy and as active in my seventies as he is now.

BMUS's post count can be explained by having numerous exchanges like this where she asks a question, the other person refuses to answer, she asks again, other person refuses to answer and so on. Happens to me a lot, amazing how much you can go back and forth when one side flat out refuses to answer simple questions, and spins hard to throw it back on the person they are *ahem* conversing with.

15. I think for both of them, age will be somewhat of an issue
Mon Nov 30, 2015, 11:19 PM
Nov 2015

and ironically it might well be with contemporaries of them in terms of age that this issue is the most pressing. To me, age is a very individual thing. I look at Tony Bennett, who is still touring in his 80's. Barry Manilow doing so in his mid 70's. Shirley McClain who is still dancing marvelously in her 80's and don't forget Jane Fonda, Lilly Tomlin, Martin Sheen, and Sam Waterston who are marvelous on Netflix in their 70's. That said, I also think of my own parents both of whom are dead (mom at 62 dad at 77) and can't help to wonder just how able they would be to keep that kind of schedule. Both of them appear to be in great health, both seem to have taken care of themselves (neither smoke, neither drink to excess, neither seem to over eat etc) but anyone in their late 40's and beyond personally know people who looked great and then didn't really fast at the ages both of them are. A younger, capable VP nominee would be a must for either one (Palin was all the more troubling given McCain was a 73 year old cancer survivor).

It says something when O'Malley is the young ones if the candidates. I have been pretty adamant that Castro will be Clinton's selection, if she wins the nomination, because he fills in a lot of gaps for her. One of which has to be the fact that he is quite young by political standards.

I'm not sure what Bernie's thinking would be for Veep. Most of the current federal critters have already aligned themselves with Clinton, so it might be a bit awkward when it is time to choose one to help him run the country.
