The Rev. Al Sharpton says he is poised to pull off what the liberal mayor of New York City tried and failed to do host a presidential forum for all three Democratic candidates in an early voting state like Iowa or South Carolina, to discuss his top issue: racial justice.
Sharpton a longtime ally of President Barack Obama who has yet to endorse anyone in the presidential race said Hillary Clinton, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley have agreed to participate in a forum in January with top ministers from across the country, sponsored by Sharptons National Action Network.
The ministers who will participate, he said, include Rev. Frederick Douglass Haynes from Texas, whose congregation includes 12,000 members; Rev. Ralph West from Houston, who counts 20,000 church members; Rev. Franklyn Richardson from New York, who leads a congregation of 4,000 members; as well as major pastors from South Carolina and Waterloo, Iowa, many of whom are at the forefront of social justice issues and many of whom did not back Clinton in 2008.
Sharpton said the forum is important because the largest gathering of black voters in the country are still churches, and added the Democratic candidates have done a poor job so far of reaching out to those communities.

(19,877 posts)I would rather see him & all the ministers & their churches pay taxes than listen to the ramblings of someone who honestly believes an invisible man in the sky is watching them.

(30,481 posts)They will be discussing racial justice. This won't be "rambling." You should listen to Sharpton sometime.
I have tried to listen to him on a number occasions: But when he starts with the God nonsense he loses me. I still think Religion should be taxed like every other business. When Religion turned into big business, it like all big business became corrupt.

I agree MSNBC Morning Joe has lost me. It's still better than Fox Snews but it's still only opinion not news. I do enjoy Robin in the morning
